Durham School Services is a school bus operator providing contracted student transportation throughout the United States, based in Lisle, Illinois, and currently operating in 32 states. Founded in 1917 with three buses in the San Gabriel Valley, it became a subsidiary of National Express in 1999. [1]

On November 21, 2016, a school bus operated by Durham was involved in an accident which left six students dead in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The driver, Johnthony K. Walker was charged with five counts of vehicular homicide. The investigation revealed that though the driver was not intoxicated, he was speeding and had strayed from the assigned route. [4] Walker had been involved in an accident two months prior, and had his drivers license suspended in 2014 for failure to show proof of insurance. [5]
In January 2018 a Durham School Services school bus crashed into a home in Meriden, Connecticut. There were eleven students on the bus at the time of the crash, no students were injured. The driver of the bus suffered injuries and was transported to Hartford Hospital. [6]
A Durham school services school bus was carrying the East Haven High School girls volleyball team, when anti freeze spilled in the bus causing it to fill with smoke. Several students were injured and two were transported to the hospital. [7]
On October 16, 2018, a Durham School bus was on its way to Valley Ranch Elementary in Irving Texas shortly before 7 a.m. when the driver noticed smoke coming from the engine, according to Coppell ISD spokeswoman Amanda Simpson. The driver, "followed protocol" and pulled over, evacuating two students and a monitor on board. Irving Fire Department responded to the scene, and for getting the fire out quickly and ensuring all surrounding the incident were safe. [8]

The Carrollton bus collision occurred on May 14, 1988, on Interstate 71 in unincorporated Carroll County, Kentucky. The collision involved a former school bus in use by a church youth group and a pickup truck driven by an alcohol-impaired driver. The head-on collision was the deadliest incident involving drunk driving and the third-deadliest bus crash in U.S. history. Of the 67 people on the bus, there were 27 fatalities in the crash, the same number as the 1958 Prestonsburg bus disaster, and behind the 1976 Yuba City bus disaster (29) and 1963 Chualar bus crash (32).
The 1995 Fox River Grove bus–train collision was a grade crossing collision that killed seven students riding aboard a school bus in Fox River Grove, Illinois, on the morning of October 25, 1995. The school bus, driven by a substitute driver, was stopped at a traffic light with the rearmost portion extending onto a portion of the railroad tracks when it was struck by a Metra Union Pacific Northwest Line train en route to Chicago.

The Snow Hill school bus collision was a vehicle accident that occurred on May 31, 1985, on US 13 near Snow Hill, North Carolina. Four vehicles were involved, including a school bus operated by the Greene County Schools. Six students and Carson Lee Conger, 27, of Norfolk, Virginia, were killed. The remaining 24 persons in the accident suffered injuries ranging from minor to critical.
The Cottonwood bus crash occurred on the afternoon of February 19, 2008 that involved a school bus carrying 28 students from Lakeview Public Schools near Cottonwood in southwestern Minnesota, United States. The bus was struck on its passenger side by a minivan that drove through a stop sign, which caused the bus to fall over onto a pickup truck, killing four students and injuring 17.

A coach that was transporting Hungarian high school students and their teachers back from a skiing trip in France collided with the highway traffic barrier, crashed into a bridge pylon, and then caught fire.

The public agency, founded in 1846, provided student transportation services to school districts, charter schools and private schools in the county. DCS also served select school districts in Parker and Tarrant Counties under the name TexServe.
