Sharm El Sheikh, commonly abbreviated to Sharm, is an Egyptian city on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, in South Sinai Governorate, on the coastal strip along the Red Sea. Its population is approximately 53,670 as of 2022. New Valley Governorate or El Wadi El Gedid Governorate is one of the governorates of Egypt. It is in the southwestern part of the country, in the south of Egypt Western Desert, between the Nile, northern Sudan, and southeastern Libya.

It is in a depression about 160 km long and from 20 km to 80 km wide. Its population is 67,700 (2012).
El Nouzha Airport or Alexandria International Airport was an international airport serving Alexandria, Egypt, 7 km (4.3 mi) southeast of the city center. In 2009, the airport served 1,142,412 passengers. The airport was shut down for major renovations in 2011, and all traffic was transferred to Borg El Arab Airport. Herbert Eustis Winlock was an American Egyptologist and archaeologist, employed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art for his entire career. Established in 1991 by Egyptologists Deborah Darnell and her then-husband John Coleman Darnell, the survey project grew substantially when it gained the support of Yale University in 1998. The Theban Desert Road Survey has discovered sites from Predynastic Egypt, including substantial caches of pottery and other artifacts.
