Eligijus Masiulis (born 15 October 1974) is a former Lithuanian politician. He has represented Liberal Movement party from 2008 to 2016. From 2008 to 2012 he was Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania. [1]
In May 2016 Liberal Movement leader Masiulis stepped down after €106k bribe allegations [2] from MG Baltic,one of the largest business groups in the Baltic countries. [3] Antanas Guoga,was made the temporary leader of the Liberal Movement following the potential bribery scandal that prompted Eligijus Masiulis to step down. Masiulis may not have been the only person involved in potentially corrupt activities. [4] After 2 years of investigation,the case charging Masiulis and MG Baltic has reached the court. [5] National Security and Defence Committee of Seimas is currently investigating businesses influence on Lithuanian politics. [6]
In 2023 November 22 he was convicted by the appeals court for bribery,influence peddling and illegal enrichment. He was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison. [7]
Transparency International e.V. (TI) is a German registered association founded in 1993 by former employees of the World Bank. The Homeland Union –Lithuanian Christian Democrats,also colloquially known as the Conservatives,is a centre-right political party in Lithuania. Irena Degutienė is a Lithuanian politician and member of the conservative Homeland Union. She is currently the Deputy Speaker of Seimas,and was twice the acting Prime Minister of Lithuania,first from 4 May 1999 to 18 May 1999 and then from 27 October 1999 to 3 November 1999. She has also been the Speaker of Seimas from 15 September 2009 to 14 September 2012,as well as Minister for Social Security and Labour from 1996 to 2000. For almost twenty years,she worked in Vilnius Red Cross Hospital before becoming a secretary in the Ministry of Health in 1994. She was initially elected to Seimas in 1996. Degutienėis the first woman to be Speaker of Seimas in Lithuania's history.
Antanas Guoga,more commonly known as Tony G,is a Lithuanian-Australian businessman,poker player,politician and philanthropist. In November 2020,Antanas was elected to the 2020–2024 legislative period of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania in the Labour Party group.
