Ellen Keane (born 6 April 1995) is an Irish Paralympic swimmer and gold medallist competing in S9, SM9 and SB8 classification events. [1]
Keane won three bronze medals at world championships before winning a bronze medal in the 100 m breaststroke (SB8) at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, [2] and gold at the same event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. [3]
Keane was born with an undeveloped left arm and competes as an amputee. She is a student at Dublin Institute of Technology. [4] [5]
In June 2017 she was honoured by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Brendan Carr, with a Lord Mayor's Award, which is awarded 'to citizens who, through their ordinary everyday lives, enrich this city in an extraordinary way'. [6]
In 2017, Keane gave a TEDx Talk Entitled 'My Lucky Fin' telling the story of how she changed the way of looking at her own disability - and how that in turn changed her entire life. [7]
In 2022, Keane appeared on the fifth series of the Irish version of Dancing With the Stars overall Keane finished the competition in second place losing out on the win to Nina Carberry and her pro-partner Pasquale La Rocca. [8] [9]
For International women's day in 2022 An Post launched a stamp collection of Irish sports women which featured Keane and others. [10]
Ellen was joint Grand Marshall with Kellie Harrington at the Dublin St. Patrick’s Day parade on 17 March 2022.

Aengus Mac Grianna is a former Irish newsreader for RTÉ. Mac Grianna was born in Raheny, a suburb in north Dublin, to an Irish-speaking family. His father was a scientist and his mother was a teacher. Mac Grianna was educated solely through Irish. He broadcast in both Irish and English. Mac Grianna has presented the Oireachtas Media Awards. He lives on an alpaca farm in County Meath just outside Ashbourne with his husband Terry Gill whom he married in June 2014. His first job was in the Arnotts Sports Department where he earned £80 per week. He is a fan of Desperate Housewives and Coronation Street and supports Dublin and Manchester United. Mac Grianna was considered a favourite to replace iconic newsreader Anne Doyle when she retired on 25 December 2011.
Maddison Gae Elliott, is an Australian swimmer. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, she became the youngest Australian Paralympic medallist by winning bronze medals in the women's 400 m and 100 m freestyle S8 events. She then became the youngest Australian gold medallist when she was a member of the women's 4 × 100 m freestyle relay 34 points team. At the 2016 Rio Paralympics, she won three gold and two silver medals.
To commemorate British gold medal winners at the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Paralympics, various post boxes in the home towns of the medal winners around the United Kingdom, plus one each on Sark and the Isle of Man, were repainted gold. It marked the first occasion in modern times that the colour of post boxes in the United Kingdom had been changed from their traditional red. Originally intended to be a temporary measure, due to the positive public response it was later decided the colour change would become a permanent tribute, with boxes additionally receiving their own special plaques.

Timothy Malcolm Disken, is an Australian paralympic swimmer. He represented Australia at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships and won bronze in the men's 4 × 100 m freestyle relay. At the 2016 Rio Paralympics, he won a gold medal in the men's 100m freestyle S9, a silver medal in the men's S9 50m freestyle and a bronze medal in the men's 200m individual medley SM9. He also competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.
Tully Alicia Jacqueline Kearney is a British Paralympic swimmer. Kearney competes in the S5 classification for swimmers with physical disabilities. She won Gold and Silver at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games setting World records in both the 50 m and 100 m freestyle. She has also won medals in three IPC Swimming World Championships winning Bronze in the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships, setting a British record; four Golds, a Silver and a Bronze in the 2015 World Championships setting three European records and becoming GB's highest medal earner of the Championships, and three Golds at the World Para Swimming Championships in 2019, setting three British records and two Championship records. In addition, she won Gold and Bronze at the World Para Swimming European Championships in 2018. Kearney is a multiple British, European and World record holder.
Alice Tai, is a British paralympic swimmer. Tai competes in the SB8, SM8 and S8. She has represented Great Britain at European and World Championships and at the Commonwealth and Paralympic Games, gold medals at all levels.
Timothy Hodge is an Australian Paralympic swimmer. He represented Australia at the 2016 and the 2020 Summer Paralympics, where he won two silver and one bronze medals.

The 2018 World Para Swimming European Championships, known for sponsorship reasons as the 2018 World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships took place in Dublin, Ireland from 13 to 19 August 2018. It was the 5th edition of the Championships, the first under the new World Para Swimming branding, and the first time Ireland had hosted. Ukraine topped the medal table for the fourth time in a row.
