Equitrekking is the Emmy award-winning equestrian themed travel television show on public television. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina native Darley Newman, the show's host, writer and producer, and a 2001 graduate of George Washington University, [1] takes viewers to locations around the world for horseback riding and other adventure activities with local people. [2] The show features tourist-friendly ranches, trail rides, horse breeds, and equestrian events, as well as a variety of locations in the United States and abroad. The series visits off the beaten path destinations with local people to give viewers a greater sense of the history and culture of each locale.

History and development

Equitrekking first aired a pilot episode filmed in Ireland in July 2004 on Horse TV. The series then filmed a New Mexico episode which broadcast on KNME-TV in New Mexico. "Equitrekking" then began national broadcasts on Public Television through American Public Television.

The 33-episode series now airs on Public Broadcasting Service stations across the country and on international networks. "Equitrekking" is also broadcast on CREATE TV, a Public Television lifestyle network. Equitrekking's companion book "Equitrekking Travel Adventures on Horseback," published by Chronicle Books and written by Darley Newman with photographs from Equitrekking's Executive Producer Chip Ward, who is also her husband, [1] [3] features dozens of scenic rides in the U.S. and around the globe from "Equitrekking's" first 13 episodes. Hundreds of photographs paired with Darley Newman's travelogue bring to life a mix of landscape, history, culture, and horses.

Equitrekking is the first television series to explore the world on horseback and each episode is filmed in high-definition television (HDTV). "Equitrekking" Won First Prize for Best Travel Broadcast in 2008 and 2009 and the "Equitrekking Travel Adventures on Horseback" book won the Merit Award for Best Travel Book in the 2008 North American Travel Journalist Association Competition. In May 2009, Equitrekking was nominated for two Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Special Class Series and Outstanding Single Camera Photography.

In August 2009, Equitrekking won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Single Camera Photography. In May 2010, Equitrekking was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Special Class Series. In May 2011, "Equitrekking" was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Special Class Writing.

"Equitrekking" has a companion website at Equitrekking.com that features travel video clips, travel articles and travel tips related to horse riding and adventure travel, Darley’s blog, photos and a monthly e-newsletter. The Equitrekking Vacation Guide, which has been featured in the Chicago Tribune , showcases great horse riding vacation destinations including dude and guest ranches, horse safaris, pack trips, cattle drives, equestrian resorts and horse holiday destinations around the world. EquitrekkingTravel.com launched in January 2010 and features global equestrian vacations inspired by the Equitrekking TV series.

Episodes take viewers to Virginia Hunt Country, Ireland, Hawaii, Iceland, California Wine Country, North Carolina, South Carolina, Wyoming, Georgia Coast, Vermont, Colorado, Spain, Belize, Costa Rica, Kentucky, Quebec, Arizona, Utah, Quebec City, Scotland, Wales, Alaska, Turkey, Alberta, Canada, Jordan, and Uruguay. The series has two specials on Great National Parks and Great American Ranches.

Bruce Harold Broughton is an American orchestral composer of television, film, and video game scores and concert works. He has composed several highly acclaimed soundtracks over his extensive career and has contributed many pieces to music archives. He has won ten Emmy Awards and has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Score. Broughton is currently a lecturer in composition at the UCLA.

The Primetime Emmy Awards are bestowed by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) in recognition of excellence in American primetime television programming. <i>WordGirl</i> Animated TV series

WordGirl is an American children’s flash-animated superhero television series produced by the Soup2Nuts animation unit of Scholastic Entertainment for PBS Kids. The show began as a series of shorts entitled The Amazing Colossal Adventures of WordGirl that premiered on PBS Kids Go! on November 10, 2006, usually shown at the end of Maya & Miguel; the segment was then spun off into a new thirty-minute episodic series that premiered on September 3, 2007 on most PBS member stations. All four full-episode seasons each have twenty-six episodes, while the preceding series of shorts had thirty.

<i>Animaniacs</i> American animated television series

Animaniacs is an American animated comedy musical television series created by Tom Ruegger for Fox Broadcasting Company's Fox Kids block, before moving to The WB in 1995, as part of its Kids' WB afternoon programming block, until the series ended on November 14, 1998. It is the second animated series produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Animation, after Tiny Toon Adventures. Daniel Ingram (composer) Canadian composer

Daniel Luke Ingram is a Canadian composer and lyricist, primarily for animated series soundtracks. He has written more than 200 songs for television, in genres ranging from pop and classic rock to large-scale Broadway-style musical theater. His music has been heard in 180 countries. He is mostly known for his work as the songwriter of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the films based on the series. He has written over 80 songs for My Little Pony since 2010.

Ocean Mysteries with Jeff Corwin is a television program which follows host Jeff Corwin's travels and works in conjunction with the Georgia Aquarium. Since 2007 he has been the executive producer, host, director and writer of the American Public Television series Joseph Rosendo’s Travelscope which has aired on PBS and Public Television Stations in the United States and Canada with 117 episodes in distribution. Season 10 was released in the spring of 2018 and Season 11 followed in August, 2019.

Michael Rubin II is an American music producer, composer, voice actor and lyricist best known for his work in children’s television. Rubin has created musical pieces for shows including Bubble Guppies, Blue's Clues, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and Jack's Big Music Show, among others. On Blue's Clues, Rubin was also the voice of Mailbox. His songs have been performed by artists including Ray Charles, Patti LaBelle, Macy Gray, Randy Travis, India.Arie, Nell Carter, Toni Braxton, Phoebe Snow, and The Persuasions.

The 45th Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony, which honors the crafts behind American daytime television programming, were held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California on April 27, 2018. The event was presented in conjunction with the 45th Daytime Emmy Awards by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The nominations were announced on March 21, 2018, during a live episode of CBS's The Talk.

Working in the Theatre is the American Theatre Wing’s documentary series created to highlight the theatre industry's inner-workings. The series profiles notable members of the industry, and provides a closer look at unique stories and important work. Working in the Theatre aims to inform audiences about typically less well-known aspects of the theatre by sharing The Wing's extensive knowledge of the industry. The series has been running for more than four decades, and has featured extraordinary work from numerous members of the industry. Darley Newman

Darley Carol Newman is an American producer, television host, writer, and entrepreneur. Newman is the creator and host of Equitrekking, an Emmy Award-winning equestrian themed travel TV show on PBS, and Travels with Darley, a PBS and Amazon Prime series that documents her experiences traveling with the locals around the world.

Travels with Darley is a PBS and Amazon Prime travel television series. The show is hosted by American Darley Newman and documents Newman's experiences with locals around the world. It premiered on PBS in 2016, taking audiences to Europe, the Caribbean and the United States. It can also be viewed on demand on Amazon Prime and has appeared on international broadcast networks as well as on over 2,000 partner sites such as MSN and HuffPost. Since its debut, the program has aired 36-half hour episodes over the span of six seasons and is currently shooting its seventh season.
