Erika Allen is the co-founder and CEO of Urban Growers Collective. [1] In 2022, she won the 2022 James Beard Leadership Award. [2]
Allen received her BA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and from the University of Illinois Chicago, a MA in art psychotherapy. [3] From the same university, she received an Honorary Ph.D. in Public Health. [4]
From 2012 until 2017, Allen was Commissioner of Chicago Park District. She serves on the Chicago Food Policy Action Council and on J. B. Pritzker's team for Agriculture. [3]

They implemented their mission by providing hands-on training, on-the-ground demonstration, outreach and technical assistance.

Urban Growers Collective is a non-profit organization that builds urban farms, gardens, and provides fresh foods primarily in underprivileged areas in the West and South Side of Chicago. The organization was founded in Chicago, Illinois in 2017 by Erika Allen and Laurell Sims. As of 2019, there are eight urban farms that have been created and are run by Urban Growers Collective.
