Erin Leigh Callin Kenny (born December 21,1960) is a former Democratic politician from Nevada.
Kenny earned her law degree on May 17,2002,from William S. Boyd School of Law,University of Nevada,Las Vegas. [1] She subsequently failed the Nevada bar exam.
Kenny was elected to a single term in the Nevada Assembly in 1992,defeating Republican incumbent Brad Goetting. [2]
Kenny was elected to the Clark County Commission in 1994. [3] Running against Richard Moreno,she won with 50.26% if the vote. [4] Kenny ran again in 1998 and won reelection with 52.56% of the vote against challenger Steve Harney. [5]
On April 19,2001,Kenny appeared before the Nevada Commission on Ethics,accused of pressuring county employees to break into the Clark County administration building to get payroll records. She was cleared of wrongdoing in a 3 to 1 decision. [6]
Kenny was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Nevada in 2002,but was defeated by Republican incumbent Lorraine Hunt. [1] [7] [8]
Early in 2003 Kenny was implicated in Operation G-Sting,a federal corruption investigation involving a Las Vegas strip club. She agreed to plead guilty and turn state's evidence in exchange for a lighter sentence. On July 24,2003,Kenny pleaded guilty to a "three-count criminal indictment charging her with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud for the purpose of depriving the citizens of Nevada of her honest services as a Clark County Commissioner." The investigation ultimately resulted in the convictions of several other former elected officials,including former county commissioners Lance Malone,Dario Herrera and Mary Kincaid-Chauncey. [9] After her guilty plea,Kenny was hired by developer Jim Rhodes as a consultant. [7] On July 18,2007,she was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison and fined a total of $200,000 for her taking of bribe money. [10]
On October 16,2007,Kenny reported to the federal prison camp in Phoenix,Arizona,as inmate no. 36965-048 to start serving her 30-month sentence on political corruption and bribery charges. Since there is no parole in the federal prison system,she needed to serve 25.5 months (2 years,1.5 months) before her sentence expired and she was released (approximately December 2009). [11] Kenny was later transferred back to the Las Vegas Corrections Center on June 17,2009,where she spent the rest of her sentence until her scheduled release on December 18. [12] She was listed as living in Las Vegas as recently as 2017. [13]
Nevada is the only U.S. state where prostitution is legally permitted in some form. Prostitution is legal in 10 of Nevada's 17 counties,although only six allow it in every municipality. Seven counties have at least one active brothel,which mainly operate in isolated,rural areas. The state's most populated counties,Clark and Washoe,are among those that do not permit prostitution. It is also illegal in Nevada's capital,Carson City,an independent city.

Darren Roy Mack became the subject of an international manhunt in June 2006 after being charged with the stabbing death of his 39-year-old estranged wife,Charla Mack,in the garage of their Reno,Nevada home. Mack was also suspected of,and later charged with,the sniper shooting of Family Court Judge Chuck Weller,who was handling the couple’s acrimonious divorce. Charla Mack was murdered after 9:00 a.m. on June 12,2006,and Judge Weller was shot around 11:05 a.m. the same day. Judge Weller spent time recovering,and returned to his courtroom on August 16.
Operation G-Sting,also called Strippergate,and referencing the G-String costume often worn by strippers and showgirls,was an FBI investigation into bribes and unreported campaign contributions taken by Clark County Commissioners in Clark County,Nevada and city council members in San Diego,California. These bribes were from the same lobbyist,representing two sets of strip clubs,and was the result of strip club owners Rick Rizzolo and Mike Galardi trying to remove local "no touch" laws affecting the girls in their clubs.

In 2012,Whittemore came under grand jury investigation,initiated by the Federal Election Commission,to determine whether he should be indicted for breaking federal campaign contribution laws. He was charged with four felonies with convictions on three of the counts,and sentenced September 2013 to two years in prison. He was also given a $100,000 fine,along with two years supervision after his incarceration and 100 hours community service.

Kirstin Blaise Lobato is a Nevada woman who was exonerated for the July 2001 murder and mutilation of Duran Bailey,a homeless man from St. Louis who was living in Las Vegas at the time of his death. At her first trial in May 2002,she was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced from 40 to 100 years in prison. In a 2006 retrial,she was convicted of the lesser charges of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 13 to 45 years. Lobato's case gained significant notoriety due to the publication of new evidence,which some believe points to her innocence of the crime.
Since 2002,there have been various housing proposals for Blue Diamond Hill,located in rural Clark County,Nevada. The proposed site is located west of Las Vegas,near the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The Blue Diamond Mine has operated on the land since the 1920s,but the property otherwise remains vacant. Each of the proposed housing projects have received some opposition from environmentalists,citing concerns about the impact that such a project would have on the surrounding area.
