Seven counties have at least one active brothel,which mainly operate in isolated,rural areas. The state's most populated counties,Clark and Washoe,are among those that do not permit prostitution. It is also illegal in Nevada's capital,Carson City,an independent city.

Mack was also suspected of,and later charged with,the sniper shooting of Family Court Judge Chuck Weller,who was handling the couple’s acrimonious divorce. Charla Mack was murdered after 9:00 a.m. on June 12,2006,and Judge Weller was shot around 11:05 a.m. the same day. Judge Weller spent time recovering,and returned to his courtroom on August 16.
Operation G-Sting,also called Strippergate,and referencing the G-String costume often worn by strippers and showgirls,was an FBI investigation into bribes and unreported campaign contributions taken by Clark County Commissioners in Clark County,Nevada and city council members in San Diego,California. These bribes were from the same lobbyist,representing two sets of strip clubs,and was the result of strip club owners Rick Rizzolo and Mike Galardi trying to remove local "no touch" laws affecting the girls in their clubs.

In 2012,Whittemore came under grand jury investigation,initiated by the Federal Election Commission,to determine whether he should be indicted for breaking federal campaign contribution laws. He was charged with four felonies with convictions on three of the counts,and sentenced September 2013 to two years in prison. He was also given a $100,000 fine,along with two years supervision after his incarceration and 100 hours community service.
Ross Carl Goodman is an American attorney who is noted for handling high-profile cases. He is the son of Carolyn and Oscar Goodman,who have each served as mayor of his hometown,Las Vegas.
Miranda Mai Du is an American lawyer who has served as a United States district judge. Du was nominated by President Barack Obama to the United States District Court for the District of Nevada in 2011,and confirmed by the Senate in 2012. As a district judge,Du has presided over a number of noteworthy cases,including a number regarding voting rights. She has been chief judge of the court since 2019.

Kirstin Blaise Lobato is a Nevada woman who was exonerated for the July 2001 murder and mutilation of Duran Bailey,a homeless man from St. Louis who was living in Las Vegas at the time of his death. At her first trial in May 2002,she was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced from 40 to 100 years in prison. In a 2006 retrial,she was convicted of the lesser charges of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 13 to 45 years. Lobato's case gained significant notoriety due to the publication of new evidence,which some believe points to her innocence of the crime.
Since 2002,there have been various housing proposals for Blue Diamond Hill,located in rural Clark County,Nevada. The proposed site is located west of Las Vegas,near the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The Blue Diamond Mine has operated on the land since the 1920s,but the property otherwise remains vacant. Each of the proposed housing projects have received some opposition from environmentalists,citing concerns about the impact that such a project would have on the surrounding area.
