History

In 2009, the organization was presented for the first time on the IWA trade fair in Nuremberg. From 2010-2012, the company was also presented on the LAAD fair in Brazil, Milipol in Qatar, and on the Defence EXPO in Thailand. [5] [6]

In 2010, the European Security Academy organised comprehensive training for the Libyan Government Protection Bureau. It was a four-month project preparing agents for their service for the state VIPs, including Muammar Gaddafi and members of his family. [7] [8]

In 2013, Discovery Channel broadcast the program Secret World of Bodyguards. It included six episodes showing training activities in the European Security Academy. One year later, Canal+ broadcast another ten episodes of the series titled Elite Bodyguards, which is a sequel of Secret Bodyguards, showing activities of the ESA trainers and trainees in operations all over the world – among others in Iraq, Brazil, Colombia, or the Gulf of Aden. [9] [10]

The European Security Academy is accredited by the British awarding bodies such as City & Guilds, Pearson or Highfield. [11] [12]

ESA trains police officers and soldiers and has trained units from the European Union, such as a special intervention squad of the military police from Poland and the Dutch special task force BSB-KMAR. [13] [14] [15]

While ESA claims to "carefully [check] all applicants’ backgrounds and [...] not train individuals with links to the far-right", Bellingcat has documented white supremacists repeatedly training at the ESA. [16]

During the communist regime in Poland the Stalinist press doctrine dominated and controlled Polish media. The country instituted freedom of press since the fall of communism. The Polish media system's main features are the product of the country's socio-political and economic post-communist transition. These features include: the privatisation of the press sector; the transformation of the state radio and television into public broadcasting services; influx of foreign capital into the media market and European integration of audiovisual media policies. Today the media landscape is very plural but highly polarized along political and ideological divides.

Act of 11 August 2021 on the amendment of the "Broadcasting and the Cinematography Act", better known by media term Lex TVN, was a controversial Polish media law amendment of the Polish Broadcasting Act. It was meant to remove loopholes that allowed companies from outside the European Economic Area to hold more than a 49% stake in Polish radio and television stations by use of dummy corporations. The government denies the measure is aimed at any one broadcaster, saying it seeks to prevent potential media acquisitions by non-EU countries such as Russia, China and Arab nations; however, many critics describe this amendment as an attempt to harass TVN and its parent company TVN Grupa Discovery in particular, given that it is the main television platform for the opposition to the ruling Law and Justice party.
