The European Student Think Tank (abbreviated EST) is an International NGO dedicated to involving young Europeans in the European policy-making process[ when? ]. It functions as an online journal of international affairs and annually publishes an academic journal, "The European Policy Review". [1]
The European Student Think Tank won the 2011 European Charlemagne Youth Prize, [2] awarded by the European Parliament, and has since then expanded to host a network of ambassadors in Council of Europe member states.
The European Student Think Tank currently hosts debates across EU institutions in which young people engage with policy-makers, having hosted in 2016 debates in the European Parliament on gender equality and youth participation in European Politics. [3] Members of the European Parliament and representatives of the European Commission participated in these debates, as well as academics. European Student Think Tank President Carlota Nunez Strutt was a panelist in the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats Europe Together conference, in which other speakers included European Parliament President Martin Schulz and vice-president of the European Commission Federica Mogherini. The European Policy Review is the peer-review journal for and by students published by the European Student Think Tank. It contains papers on a wide range of topics related to EU policy and European affairs. The European Policy Review has four editions to date.
The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a British research institute in the area of international affairs. Since 1997 its headquarters have been Arundel House in London, England.
The Bruges Group is a think tank based in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1989, it advocates for a restructuring of Britain's relationship with the European Union and other European countries. Its members and staff campaign against the notion of an "ever-closer union" in Europe and, above all, against British involvement in a single European state. The group is often associated with the Conservative Party, including MPs such as Iain Duncan Smith, Daniel Hannan, John Redwood, and Norman Lamont. However, it is formally an independent all-party think tank, and some Labour MPs and peers have cited the publications or attended the meetings of the Bruges Group through the years, such as Frank Field, Gisela Stuart, Lord Stoddart of Swindon and Lord Shore of Stepney.
Richard Graham Corbett CBE is a former British politician who served as the final Leader of the European Parliamentary Labour Party (EPLP), from 2017 to 2020. He was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Merseyside West from 1996 to 1999 and then for Yorkshire and the Humber from 1999 to 2009, when he lost his seat, and again from 2014 to 2020. He attended Shadow Cabinet meetings and was a member of the Labour Party's National Executive Committee.
The European People's Party (EPP) is a European political party with Christian-democratic, conservative, and liberal-conservative member parties. A transnational organisation, it is composed of other political parties. Founded by primarily Christian-democratic parties in 1976, it has since broadened its membership to include liberal-conservative parties and parties with other centre-right political perspectives. On 20 November 2019, the party elected as its president the former Prime Minister of Poland and President of the European Council, Donald Tusk.
The College of Europe is a postgraduate institute of European studies with its main campus in Bruges, Belgium, and a smaller campus in Warsaw, Poland. The College of Europe in Bruges was founded in 1949 by leading historical European figures and founding fathers of the European Union, including Salvador de Madariaga, Winston Churchill, Paul-Henri Spaak and Alcide De Gasperi as one of the results of the 1948 Congress of Europe in The Hague to promote "a spirit of solidarity and mutual understanding between all the nations of Western Europe and to provide elite training to individuals who will uphold these values" and "to train an elite of young executives for Europe". The founders imagined the college as a place where Europe's future leaders could live and study together. It has the status of "Institution of Public Interest", operating according to Belgian law. The second campus in Natolin (Warsaw), Poland was opened in 1992. The College of Europe is historically linked to the establishment of the European Union and its predecessors, and to the creation of the European Movement International, of which the college is a supporting member. Federica Mogherini, former High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, was appointed as the Rector to start in September 2020; former President of the European Council Herman, Count Van Rompuy is chairman of the board.
Vesalius College, also known commonly as VeCo, is a college situated in the heart of Brussels, Belgium. The college is operated in association with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. It is named after Andreas Vesalius, one of the first and foremost pioneers in the study of Anatomy who lived during the Renaissance period.
Monica Frassoni is an Italian politician who served as a Member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2009 and as co-chair of the European Green Party from 2009 to 2019. In 2018, she was elected at the local Council of Ixelles in the Brussels Region, representing the Ecolo party.

Klaus Welle is a German politician who has served as Secretary General of the European Parliament since 15 March 2009. He was previously Head of the Office of the President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Poettering MEP, from January 2007. He succeeded Harald Rømer, a Danish career civil servant, who had reached retirement age.

Youth politics is a category of issues which distinctly involve, affect or otherwise impact youth. Youth politics encompasses youth policy that specifically has an impact on young people and how young people engage in politics including in institutional politics, youth organisations, but also in protest movements and lifestyle.
The Jacques Delors Institute, which also uses the name Notre Europe, is an independent think tank based in Paris. Founded in 1996 by Jacques Delors, it aims to "think a united Europe." Enrico Letta currently serves as president of the Jacques Delors Institute, while Sébastien Maillard is its director.
The European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) is a pan-European think tank with offices in seven European capitals. Launched in October 2007, it conducts research on European foreign and security policy and provides a meeting space for decision-makers, activists and influencers to share ideas. ECFR builds coalitions for change at the European level and promotes informed debate about Europe's role in the world. ECFR has offices in Berlin, London, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Warsaw and Sofia.
The Wilberforce Society (TWS) is an independent, non-partisan, student think tank, named after MP, Cambridge alumnus and abolitionist William Wilberforce, based at the University of Cambridge. It was founded in 2009 and is a registered charity. TWS aims to "promote constructive and intelligent debate" around the University of Cambridge, and "represents the views of moderate students," offering undergraduates and graduates "the opportunity to become involved with policy conception and analysis with the possibility of genuine impact." TWS follows an independent, diverse and non-partisan policy agenda set by the executive committee, but also carries out commissions for external organisations and public figures, which have included members of the House of Lords and the House of Commons.
Ramona Nicole Mănescu is a Romanian politician and lawyer. From 24 July 2019 to 4 November 2019, she served as minister of Foreign Affairs in the Romanian Government. She was a Member of the European Parliament serving 2007 to 2013 and 2014 to 2019 from the National Liberal Party, active within the European People's Party. As part of this group she is a member of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, vice-chair in the Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries and a substitute member in the Committee on transport and tourism and in Delegation for relations with the Arab Peninsula.
New Direction – The Foundation for European Reform is a political foundation at European level, think tank and publisher affiliated with the Alliance of Conservatives and Reformists in Europe (ACRE). It was established in 2010, under the patronage of Baroness Thatcher. It is based in Brussels with satellite offices in London and Warsaw. New Direction is a free-market think tank that promotes European reform through the strengthening of accountability, transparency and democracy.
EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy is a non-profit, non-partisan, and independent think-tank focusing on European integration and cohesion. EUROPEUM contributes to policy related to democracy, security, stability, freedom, and solidarity across Europe as well as to active engagement of the Czech Republic in the European Union. EUROPEUM undertakes original research, organizes public events and educational activities, and formulates new ideas and recommendations to improve European and Czech policy-making.
The Young Initiative on Foreign Affairs and International Relations is a nonpartisan German think tank dedicated to promoting greater engagement of youth in international affairs. IFAIR was founded in 2010, during a summer school of the German National Academic Foundation and as of February 2018, had 190 members globally. Grouping activities in three lines of action ("Think.Lean.Act"), the think tank seeks to stimulate debates on topics of international politics, to support the professional development of its members, and to implement specific projects in the realm of international relations (IR). In the past, IFAIR has been pursuing its activities in collaboration with institutions such as the German Federal Foreign Office, the German Chancellery and the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. IFAIR's open think tank www.ifair.eu boasts more than 160 publications, including guest contributions from European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.
The Juncker Commission was the European Commission in office from 1 November 2014 to 30 November 2019. Its president was Jean-Claude Juncker, who presided over 27 other commissioners. In July 2014, Juncker was officially elected to succeed José Manuel Barroso, who completed his second five-year term in that year.
