Modest Mouse is an American rock band formed in 1993 in Issaquah, Washington, and currently based in Portland, Oregon. The founding members were lead singer/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green and bassist Eric Judy. Strongly influenced by Pavement, Pixies, XTC, and Talking Heads, they rehearsed, rearranged, and recorded demos for almost two years before finally signing with small-town indie label K Records and releasing numerous singles. The band achieved mainstream success with their fourth album, Good News for People Who Love Bad News (2004), and its singles "Float On" and "Ocean Breathes Salty".

Building Nothing Out of Something is a compilation album released in January 2000 by American indie rock band Modest Mouse, comprising non-album tracks from various points in the band's career. Most of the tracks are A- and B-sides from 7" singles, but it also includes three tracks from the Interstate 8 EP, and "Baby Blue Sedan" from the vinyl version of The Lonesome Crowded West. All songs were originally released from 1996 to 1998. In 2015, Brock's Glacial Pace re-released the album for CD and Vinyl.
Daniel Patrick “Danny” Lohner, frequently known as Renholdër, is an American musician. He worked with Trent Reznor on numerous occasions, both with Nine Inch Nails and on the now defunct Tapeworm project. He has also played for Methods of Mayhem, and in the past was one of the founding members of industrial-thrash outlet Skrew, as well as one of the members of the Texas thrash metal band Angkor Wat.
Interstate 8 is the second EP by alternative rock band Modest Mouse, released on Up Records in 1996. It contains the band's original demo, Live in Sunburst Montana, which was recorded in Isaac Brock's garage in Issaquah, Washington. "Interstate 8," "Broke," "All Night Diner," and "Sleepwalking" were later included on the Building Nothing Out of Something rarities compilation released in 2000.

The four tracks on 12" ended up on 2001's Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks. Extra percussion on I Came As A Rat was provided by Ben Massarella and bass on You're the Good Things was played by Ben Blankenship.

The Boxing Gandhis are an American alternative funk/soul band from Los Angeles founded by music producer David Darling. The group was signed to the record label Mesa Blue Moon in 1993 and scored a #5 hit on the Billboard Triple A chart with the song "If You Love Me " off their debut album after touring the US as opening act for the Dave Matthews Band and Big Head Todd and the Monsters. The song's video also garnered a Billboard Music Award "Video of the Year" and was directed by Brian Lockwood.
