Mohanraj became its General Secretary, and as of October 2011, he had "contested 15 elections to Parliament, the Assembly and the local body". In an election on 16 May 2016, he received 60 votes, compared to 91,303 votes for the winner, representing the party in the elections for the Kolathur Assembly constituency's seat in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
