Faith Erin Hicks is a Canadian cartoonist and animator living in Vancouver, British Columbia.

She has created a number of graphic novels, both as sole creator (such as Zombies Calling! and Friends with Boys) and as a collaborator (Nothing Could Possibly Go Wrong and Buffy: The High School Years), as well as serialized works like Demonology 101 and The Adventures of Superhero Girl.

Biography

After studying animation at Sheridan College, Faith Erin Hicks came to prominence with her long-running webcomic Demonology 101 (D101). [1]

Since the beginning of Demonology 101, Hicks has completed a spinoff of the D101 character Sachs entitled A Distant Faith. [2] She also created a zombie-movie inspired comic called Zombies Calling , [3] [4] as well as the dystopian comic Ice (originally published on Modern Tales). [5]

She drew backgrounds for the George of the Jungle animated series [4] and created Jenny’s Brothers, a comic strip to the Halifax Chronicle-Herald . [6] Her original comic series The Adventures of Superhero Girl ran weekly in Halifax's local free paper, The Coast, as well as on her own website. and was collected into a book by Dark Horse Comics. [7]

Her graphic novel Friends with Boys was published in February 2012 from First Second. She was also the illustrator and co-writer for the graphic novel The Last of Us: American Dreams , along with Neil Druckmann.

On January 30, 2014, it was announced that Hicks would illustrate the first of two graphic novels written by young adult author Rainbow Rowell. [8] This book would be published as Pumpkinheads on August 27, 2019. [9]

On October 26, 2020, Hicks announced she was working on Ride On, her upcoming graphic novel, to be published by First Second. [10]

Hicks has won two Eisner Awards. In 2014, she won for Best Publication for Kids for The Adventures of Superhero Girl. [11] Then in 2019 Eisner Award for Best Publication for Kids (ages 9–12) for The Nameless City: The Divided Earth. [12]

Demonology 101 is a webcomic written and drawn by Faith Erin Hicks from August 1999 to June 2004. It tells the story of Raven, a 16-year-old demon being raised by a human in ordinary human society. Hicks' first public work gained attention as an early story-focused webcomic, and ran for 700 pages before being concluded.

Steve Rolston is a Canadian artist and writer of comic books and graphic novels currently living in Vancouver, British Columbia. After working in story boards for various animated series, he got his first break from Oni Press as the penciler and inker of the first four issues of their on-going Queen & Country comic series by praised author Greg Rucka. From 2005 to 2017, Rolston taught a course at Vancouver Institute of Media Arts entitled "Introduction to Comic Book Production".

The series was published by Dark Horse Comics between April and July 2013, and a collected edition was published in October 2013.
