Family Feud Canada is an English-language Canadian game show based on the American game show. It is hosted by actor and comedian Gerry Dee. On May 29, 2019, it was announced that an English-speaking version [1] would air on CBC Television, produced by Zone3, and distributed by Fremantle North America, starting on December 16, 2019. [2]

Game play is the same as the concurrent U.S. version. The Fast Money prize in this version is CA$10,000 in tax-free money and if the champions fail to win the grand prize, they receive $5 a point. As of December 30, 2019, there is a limit of three appearances (unlike the U.S. version, where a family can appear up to five times and also win a car after their fifth and final win). Music score is the same as in U.S. original and studio set is nearly identical to the current one used in U.S. version of Family Feud, but have some differences. Each winning family from the first month would return following the three-day limit change.

All family members must be at least 18 years old, compared to the U.S. version, in which they don't have a fixed age requirement. (The U.S. version still recommends that the contestants be at least 15 years old, due to the nature of the questions).

In February 2020, the show was renewed for a second season by CBC. [3] The second season began airing on October 12, 2020. It was also renewed for a third, fourth, fifth and upcoming sixth season.

The show covers costs for the contestants to travel to Toronto for game sessions. [4] Among the game's rules are that contestants cannot boo other contestants. [4]

The maximum cash prize offered in most versions of the format is an aspirational value in local currency, such as £1 million in the UK or 75 million in India.

A game show is a type of radio, television, or internet program in which contestants, television personalities or celebrities, sometimes as part of a team, play a game which involves answering trivia questions or solving puzzles, usually for prizes. Game shows are usually distinguishable from reality television competition shows, in which the competition consumes an entire season of episodes; in a game show, prizes can typically be won in a single match. Beginning with the first five-figure and six-figure game show jackpots in the mid-1950s, a succession of contestants on various quiz shows of the era each set records. Teddy Nadler of The $64,000 Challenge, the highest-scoring contestant of the 1950s era, was not surpassed until 1980, when Thom McKee won $312,700 on Tic-Tac-Dough. Between 1999 and 2001, during a brief boom in high-stakes game shows, the record was broken six times. Both the 1955–1958 and 1999–2001 eras of rapidly set and broken records were driven primarily by one-upmanship between the networks each trying to secure bragging rights and ratings by inflating their prize offerings, rather than the merits of the contestants themselves. American daytime television has historically had smaller prize budgets for game shows that air in that daypart.
