Family Wrestling Entertainment, also known as FWE, was an independent professional wrestling promotion. The company was based and ran shows in New York. They hosted a show about every four months.

History

Family Wrestling Entertainment (FWE) was founded by Jordan Schneider in 2011, with the concept of all family wrestling. [1] On October 5, 2012, FWE held their first iPPV. [2] In October 2013, FWE held the Openweight Prix Tournament, which was won by Tony Nese. However, the promotion entered into hiatus until 2014. [3]

On February 7, 2015, FWE held the No Limits iPPV. [4] It was on this card that the Insane Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Championship was renamed the ICW World Heavyweight Championship [5] [6] due to Drew Galloway successfully retaining against Matt Hardy, [7] which was the first defence of this Scottish title in the USA. [8]

On March 31, 2015, FWE announced the cancellation of their April events. [9] The promotion has not held an event since March 11, 2015.

The original championship was designed and created in 1997 by Reggie Parks. The title was introduced on August 17, 1997, at an OVW live event, then known as the NWA-OVW Heavyweight Championship due to OVW's relationship with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) governing body. OVW eventually parted ways with the NWA in October 2001, and the title was renamed the OVW Heavyweight Championship. OVW later became a developmental territory for the World Wrestling Entertainment organization, but their partnership eventually ceased on February 7, 2008. The ICW World Heavyweight Championship is a professional wrestling world heavyweight championship owned by Scotland's Insane Championship Wrestling promotion. The title was first established as the ICW National Heavyweight Championship at ICW's debut show on October 15, 2006, with Drew Galloway becoming the inaugural champion. On February 7, 2015, the title was officially renamed the ICW World Heavyweight Championship after Galloway successfully defended the title in a match against Matt Hardy for the Family Wrestling Entertainment promotion in New York.
