Fencing events have been contested at every Asian Games since 1974 Asian Games in Tehran. They were not included in the year 1982.

The 7th Asian Games were held from 1 to 16 September 1974 in Tehran, Iran. The Aryamehr Sports Complex was built for the Games. The Asian Games were hosted in the Middle East for the first time. Fencing was contested at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar from December 9 to December 14. Men's and women's competition took place in the Sabre, Foil, and Épée. Team competition also took place. All competition took place at Al-Arabi Indoor Hall.

The fencing competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled to run from 27 July to 4 August at the Grand Palais strip. For the second straight time, Paris 2024 will witness both men and women fence against each other in the individual and team events held in all three weapons.
