Financial Planning Association (FPA) is the largest membership organization in the USA representing financial planners. Current membership is 22,000. [1]

FPA is primarily focused on supporting Certified Financial Planner members. The organization was formed from the merger of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and the International Association for Financial Planning on January 1, 2000. The International Association for Financial Planning was founded in 1970 and the Institute of Certified Financial Planners was formed in 1973 by the first graduating class of the College for Financial Planning. A financial planner or personal financial planner is a qualified financial advisor. Practicing in full service personal finance, they advise clients on investments, insurance, tax, retirement and estate planning.

The American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is the American Planning Association's professional institute. AICP certifies professionals in the United States in the field of urban planning and assists planners in the areas of ethics, professional development, planning education, and the standards of planning practice. Members of AICP pledge to adhere to a detailed Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. Once certified, professional planners may place the designation "AICP" after their name to indicate their membership in AICP, and their mastery of the principles, skills, knowledge, and experience determined by the organization as essential for a professional planner.

The Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation is a professional certification mark for financial planners conferred by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards in the United States, and by 25 other organizations affiliated with Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB), the owner of the CFP mark outside of the United States. The certification is not a government designation, nor an accredited degree, and is owned by the for profit Kaplan Corporation in the United States.

American Academy of Financial Management

The American Academy of Financial Management (AAFM) was a US-based board of standards, certifying body, and accreditation council focused on the finance sector and management professionals. It was criticized in The Wall Street Journal as having low requirements for the credentials it confers and for excessive claims of links to other associations and industry experts. AAFM was superseded by the Global Academy of Finance & Management.

The Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) is a professional organization in Canada for those involved in land use planning. It is responsible for advocating at national and international levels for members, developing public policy positions, and providing services to members. The institute has over 8,000 members from across Canadian, and serves as a national umbrella for the eleven Provincial and Territorial Institutes and Associations (PTIA).

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. is an American 501(c)(3) certifying and standards-setting organization that administers the Certified Financial Planner certification program and oversees more than 73,970 professionals using the CFP certification in the United States.

Dave Yeske

Dave Yeske is an American financial planner, researcher, and educator. He is particularly known for his research and writing in the areas of Policy-Based Financial Planning and Strategy-Making by financial planners. Yeske is co-founder and a managing director of Yeske Buie, a wealth management firm; a past national president of the Financial Planning Association; and currently holds an appointment as Distinguished Adjunct Professor in Golden Gate University's Ageno School of Business where he also serves as director of the school's financial planning degree program.

Urban planning education is a practice of teaching and learning urban theory, studies, and professional practices. The interaction between public officials, professional planners and the public involves a continuous education on planning process. Community members often serve on a city planning commission, council or board. As a result, education outreach is effectively an ongoing cycle.

Elaine King

Elaine King is a Certified Financial Planner, writer and motivational speaker born in Lima, Perú. She lives in Miami. King has focused her career in financial education for families. She is the author of eight financial planning books for parents, teens, children and immigrants. In 2017 King was included in the list of the 25 most powerful Latina women in the United States published by People magazine and in 2020 she appeared on the Top 100 Financial Advisors list on the Investopedia website.

The Financial Planning Association of Australia is according to its website "the largest professional community of financial planners". It has over 14,000 members and affiliates, with 11,400 of them practising financial planners and 5,700 being certified financial planner( CFP) professionals. The FPA as it is most commonly referred to as, offers five different individual levels of membership which include the Certified Financial Planner Professional, Financial Planner AFP, Associate, Allied Professional and student. FPA also has two partnership programs, FPA Professional Practice Program and FPA Professional Partner Program. The educational activities they offer include the Certified Financial Planner Certification Program and the Continuing Professional Development. They hold an annual professionals congress which is attended by both members and non-members. The FPA has 31 Chapters throughout Australia which offer an events program. FUTURE2 FOUNDATION, PRO BONO service and 10 THOUSAND GIRL are their charitable and not-for-profit social enterprises. Under their consumer recognition side they host advertising campaigns to raise awareness amongst consumers and they also have an awards program.
