Najib Razak formed the first Najib cabinet after being invited by Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin to begin a new government following the resignation of the previous Prime Minister of Malaysia, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. It was the 18th cabinet of Malaysia formed since independence. Prior to the resignation, Abdullah led (as Prime Minister) the third Abdullah cabinet, a coalition government that consisted of members of the component parties of Barisan Nasional.

Najib announced his inaugural Cabinet on 9 April 2009. [1] Former Malaysia Airlines chief executive officer and managing director Idris Jala was added to the line-up on 28 August 2009. [2]

Najib streamlined the Cabinet to 28 members from 32 in the previous Abdullah Ahmad Badawi administration. His new line-up came under criticism from previous Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir. [3]

Tan Sri Dato' Haji Mahiaddin bin Md Yasin, commonly known as Muhyiddin bin Muhammad Yassin, is a Malaysian politician who served as the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia from March 2020 to August 2021. Appointed as prime minister amid a political crisis, Muhyiddin served for 17 months and resigned after losing parliamentary support, making him the second shortest-serving prime minister in Malaysian history after Ismail Sabri Yaakob. He is the first ever former Prime Minister after resignation not awarded to title Tun.

Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Taib is a former Deputy Minister of Tourism of Malaysia. He is the 3rd son of Abdul Taib Mahmud who is the current Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak while his mother was the late Laila Taib. Sulaiman wed 20-year-old Anisa, daughter of the former Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak George Chan Hong Nam.

He is a member of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition which is aligned with the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition who has served as Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities I for the second term in the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration under Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin from August 2021 to November 2022.
