The Florida House of Representatives is the lower house of the Florida Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Florida, the Florida Senate being the upper house. Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution of Florida, adopted in 1968, defines the role of the Legislature and how it is to be constituted. The House is composed of 120 members, each elected from a single-member district with a population of approximately 180,000 residents. Legislative districts are drawn on the basis of population figures, provided by the federal decennial census. Representatives' terms begin immediately upon their election.
Since Florida became a U.S. state in 1845, it has sent congressional delegations to the United States Senate and United States House of Representatives. Each state elects two senators to serve for six years, and members of the House to two-year terms. Before becoming a state, the Florida Territory elected a non-voting delegate at-large to Congress from 1822 to 1845.
Florida's 21st congressional district is a U.S. congressional district in the Treasure Coast. In the 2020 redistricting cycle, the district was drawn as a successor to the previous 18th district and contains all of St. Lucie County and Martin County as well as the northeastern part of Palm Beach County, and includes Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce, Stuart, Jupiter, and Palm Beach Gardens, as well as Treasure Coast International Airport. The previous iteration of the 21st district, which extended from Delray Beach to Palm Beach, was instead renamed the 22nd district.
Sandra Adams is an American politician who was the U.S. representative for Florida's 24th congressional district. She is a member of the Republican Party. She is a former law enforcement professional who represented District 33 in the Florida House of Representatives. On August 14, 2012, she was defeated in her bid for a second term in the Republican primary election by fellow Congressman John Mica after being redistricted to the 7th district.
Ben Albritton is a Republican politician, current member of the Florida Senate and a former member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing the 56th District, which includes DeSoto County, Hardee County, and southwestern Polk County, from 2012 to 2018. Albritton previously represented the 66th District from 2010 to 2012.

In 2018, Lieutenant Colonel Tommy Gregory defeated Democratic challenger resident Liv Coleman by 24 points in the heavily Republican district. After the redistricting of Florida's House districts, representative of district 72 Fiona McFarland defeated teacher Derek Reich by 13 points to become district 73's current representative.

This district is located in the Sarasota metropolitan area and encompasses northwestern parts of Sarasota County. As of the 2010 census, the district's population is 159,167. The most populated census-designated place in the district is its share of Sarasota, with around 54,400 people living there; followed by Sarasota Springs and Fruitville. In the 2022 election for the district, 82,707 total people voted, 67% of which voted for republican Tommy Gregory, District 73's representative at the time; Gregory defeated resident Roberts Dameus in the election.
