Student housing at Florida State University is governed by the Office of University Housing, and provides housing for undergraduates, graduate students, and professional students on and off-campus. Overall about 85% of first time in college students live in residence halls. In addition over 20% of all undergraduates live in student housing. [2]

Facilities at Florida State include 18 residence halls on campus with 6,712 residents. Undergraduates live in a majority of the residence halls. [1]

In 2009, the university celebrated the completion of a 15-year project that renovated the seven historic residence halls (built before 1950). The interiors were modernized while the original facades were retained. The construction began in 1992 with Jennie Murphree Hall and ended in 2006 with Landis Hall. [3]

All dormitories are co-ed with no single sex buildings. With few exceptions, all dormitories were constructed as suites with private bathrooms. [1]

It opened when housing shortages forced schools across the country to provide living quarters for married, older, and foreign students. A-V was cheap, no-frills, not air-conditioned, brick apartments for $50–60 per month. The complex had childcare, playgrounds, tennis courts and picnic tables. Officially, the complex was Alumni Memorial Village because the street names were those of FSU graduates who recently died. [26]

Albert Alexander Murphree was an American college professor and university president. Murphree was a native of Alabama, and became a mathematics instructor after earning his bachelor's degree. He later served as the third president of Florida State College from 1897 to 1909, and the second president of the University of Florida from 1909 to 1927. Murphree is the only person to have been the president of both of Florida's original state universities, the University of Florida and Florida State University, and he played an important role in the organization, growth and ultimate success of both institutions.

Murphree Area is an historic residence hall complex on the northern edge of the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Florida. The complex is adjacent to University Avenue, one of the major public roads that serve the university and define its boundaries. It was the university's first residence area and the last one to become co-ed. The Murphree Area complex is named for Albert A. Murphree, the second president of the university, who served from 1909 to 1927. It consists of the following five residence buildings, all built between 1905 and 1939:

The history of Florida State University dates to the 19th century and is deeply intertwined with the history of education in the state of Florida and in the city of Tallahassee. Florida State University, known colloquially as Florida State and FSU, is one of the oldest and largest of the institutions in the State University System of Florida. The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is the joint college of engineering of Florida A&M University and Florida State University. The history of the University of Florida is firmly tied to the history of public education in the state of Florida. The University of Florida originated as several distinct institutions that were consolidated to create a single state-supported university by the Buckman Act of 1905. The oldest of these was the East Florida Seminary, one of two seminaries of higher learning established by the Florida Legislature. The East Florida Seminary opened in Ocala 1853, becoming the first state-supported institution of higher learning in the state of Florida. Florida State University-Panama, or FSU-Panama is an international branch campus of Florida State University located on the isthmus of Panama. The landmarks and monuments of Florida State University are statues, sculptures, memorials and greenspaces located on Florida State University's Tallahassee campus that are considered culturally or historically significant. The University of Florida Inter-Residence Hall Association (IRHA) is a student organization of the University of Florida that acts as an association of on-campus undergraduate residents and represents them to the university housing department. IRHA is a residence hall association (RHA) and is the exclusive such organization for University of Florida undergraduates. The organization is one of the largest student organizations on campus and, historically, one of the most influential on university policy.

The FSU Legacy Walk is a historical tour of the Florida State University campus, winding through the entire campus with stops showcasing architecture, green spaces, history and artwork. Legacy Walk medallions and garnet banners are placed to guide visitors along the mostly concrete paths. Raised brick podia display information and maps describing events and people are positioned at intervals on the walk. Bronze statues and monuments reflect the pride and history of the school's alumni and students.

The FSU Student Union is the Student center on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee, in the U.S. state of Florida. The brick building is a modern structure with a Collegiate Gothic exterior to match the architectural design of most of the buildings on the university's campus. It officially opened on September 23, 2022 replacing six aged buildings, some nearly 70 years old.
