Forest Mall was an enclosed shopping mall in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, USA. Opened in 1973, the mall closed and was demolished in 2020.

As of April 2023, The Former Pranges/Younkers building is still standing and Kohl’s and TJ Maxx continue operations

History

Melvin Simon & Associates, now known as Simon Property Group, first announced plans for Forest Mall in 1964. [3] The mall opened in September 1973, featuring Montgomery Ward, J. C. Penney, H. C. Prange Co., Prange Way and G. C. Murphy. [4] A Copps Department Store was also located nearby. Of these stores, Montgomery Ward, J. C. Penney and Prange had relocated from downtown Fond du Lac. [5] The Montgomery Ward space was later taken over by Kohl's, the Prange Way space by Sears and Prange's became Younkers.

Simon renovated the mall in 1998, adding skylights and new flooring. [6] In 2006, several new stores opened at the mall, although most were local retailers. [7]

In May 2014, JCPenney closed. It was the last of the original anchors in the mall. [8] Sears closed on November 2, 2014, as did the Forest Mall Cinema. As a result, many retailers in the mall, local and national such as American Eagle, Aeropostale, Pac Sun, and Victorias Secret closed too.

In 2014, Simon Property Group spun off its underperforming malls, including Forest Mall, into an investment group known as WP Glimcher. In early 2016, Simon's investment group officially sold the mall to ATR Corinth Partners, a Dallas-based investment. [1] Simon had developed the mall and owned it for more than 40 years.

Younkers closed in 2018. [9]

By 2020, the mall had no internal tenants and was closed. Kohl's and Staples remained in operation, but had closed their mall entrances. In July 2020, demolition began. Staples closed too, and the mall and all anchors were demolished, with the exception of Kohl's, which remains open as a freestanding store. A Meijer store is set to be built on the site of the mall. It also operated discount stores under the Prange Way name in the former two states, although this division was sold off in the 1990s. Prange's was dissolved and most of the stores converted to the rival Younkers chain after sale in 1992.

The mall underwent a period of decline and was shuttered in 2003.

Gateway Mall is an enclosed shopping mall located in Lincoln, Nebraska managed by WPG. It was built in 1960, and is the largest shopping center in Lincoln, with 107 stores. The mall's anchor stores are Dillard's, David's Bridal, Dick's Sporting Goods, Round 1 Entertainment, and JCPenney.

Machesney Park Mall was a shopping center in Machesney Park, Illinois, a village in the Rockford, Illinois metropolitan area. Since its opening, the mall has greatly declined. The entire enclosed portion of the mall was closed, with the south wing becoming retail space. Other parts of the mall have become retail space as well. A large portion of the mall was transformed into two separate stores, Burlington Coat Factory and Big Lots, in an effort to transform the mall into a shopping plaza.

Prien Lake Mall is an enclosed, regional shopping mall in Lake Charles, Louisiana which serves 344,268 people. It is located on West Prien Lake Road and is highly visible from Interstate 210. The Mall is named after Prien Lake, which is one of the lakes in the city of Lake Charles. When it opened in 1972 with 35 stores, many retailers from downtown Lake Charles relocated to the mall leading to urban blight in the downtown area. The anchor store on opening was Montgomery Ward. The mall was extended with a new wing opening in 1998, increasing floorspace to 800,000 sq. ft. including a new food court and Sears store, which closed in 2018. In 2001 an Educational Resource Centre was approved for opening in the mall with federal funding from the US Department of Education's Community Technology Centers Program. It provides adult education and English classes. In that same year, Houston-based Foley's came to the mall with a new store built, only to rebrand as Macy's five years later. Macy's only lasted at the mall for a year until it closed in early 2008. By 2009, Kohl's replaced the former Macy's building. The anchor stores are Dillard's, Dick's Sporting Goods, Kohl's, Kirkland's, JCPenney, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, and Cinemark Theatres. There is 1 vacant anchor store that was once Sears.

Conestoga Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Grand Island, Nebraska. It was opened in 1974 and is owned by Namdar Realty Group. The mall's anchor store is Best Buy. There are 4 vacant anchor stores that were once Sears, Dillard's, Younkers and JCPenney.

Southtown Mall was an enclosed shopping mall in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Opened in 1969, it closed in 2003 due to declining traffic. Anchor stores once included J. C. Penney, Montgomery Ward, Wolf & Dessauer, Sears, and Service Merchandise. The mall was demolished for new development including a Walmart and Menards.

Hickory Point Mall is an enclosed mall in Forsyth, Illinois, United States. The mall opened in 1978. The anchor stores are Kohl's, Von Maur, TJ Maxx, Hobby Lobby, Ulta Beauty, Ross Dress for Less, and Shoe Dept. Encore. The mall is managed by Namdar Realty Group. There are 3 vacant anchor stores that were once JCPenney, Sears, and Bergner's.

It was managed by Mid-America Real Estate Group.
