Fourth Floor Collapse is a Melbourne-based rock band.
Fourth Floor Collapse originated in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, playing their first show at the Rosemount Hotel in 1998. [1]
Michael and Rhys actually met at play group way back when and I met Michael at high school. I was in half a band and we were looking for a singer and Michael and Rhys were kind of half a band and needed a bass player. We got together and went from there. We lived a suburb apart – it just seemed logical that we get together

They became the most awarded unsigned band in Australia, [3] taking out the Next Big Thing Competition in 1999 and winning ten Western Australian Music Industry Awards, [4] including Most Popular Local Original Rock Act (2002). [5] The band released its debut recording Plans for Dream Homes in 2000 on the QStik Records label and its debut album, Half Deserted Streets in 2001 on Congregation Records.
In 2003 Fourth Floor Collapse released its second album, From the Cold, for which it received extensive airplay on Triple J and public radio around the country, [6] with tracks such as "Made Believe", "Sun", and "Stories Unglued".
Frustrated by the isolation of Perth the three main songwriters, Dan Forrestal, Rhys Kealley and Michael Miller relocated to Melbourne in 2005 [6] adding bass player, Jesse Delaney and drummer Michael Parker. [7]
We'd seen a lot of bands who'd left Perth, and disappeared. It scared the hell out of us, but we got to the point where we had to do something to move forward. If we could stay in WA then we would but we can't afford it - especially touring. We would get over to the east two or three times every year, and whatever buzz we could generate would dissipate before we could capitalise on it.

The group signed to Creative Vibes [6] with whom they recorded and released their third album Books with Broken Spines in 2006. Singles released from this album were, "Drink 'til You Drown", "Occupation" and "Ashes". [8] The release was followed by heavy touring by the band and by the beginning of 2008 they had clocked up over 250 shows. [7] They commenced recording their fourth album in early 2008.
We began work on this album at the beginning of the year. It has been two years since our last release, and two years seems like a long time to me. If I could, I would get stuff out every year.

The album, Victoria, was recorded in Melbourne; mixed in Perth by Andy Lawson (Little Birdy, Eskimo Joe & End of Fashion) and Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe); and mastered in Sydney, it was released on 13 October 2008.

The WAM Song of the Year was formed by the Western Australian Rock Music Industry Association Inc. (WARMIA) in 1985, with its main aim to develop and run annual awards recognising achievements within the music industry in Western Australia. [10] [11]

Little Birdy was an Australian alternative rock band formed in Perth, Western Australia, in 2002 by singer and guitarist Katy Steele, drummer Matt Chequer, guitarist and keyboardist Simon Leach, and bass guitarist Scott O'Donoghue. They gained public attention when their single "Relapse" gained popularity on alternative radio stations such as Triple J, leading them to be signed by the record label Eleven: A Music Company. They released three studio albums, two EPs, and ten singles.
Gyroscope are an Australian rock band from Perth, which formed in 1997 as Gyroscope Sunday. The members are Daniel Sanders as lead vocalist and on guitar, Zoran Trivic on guitar and backing vocals, Brad Campbell on bass guitar and backing vocals and Rob Nassif on drums. As of 2014 the group has released four studio albums on major labels.
The Sleepy Jackson are an Australian alternative rock band formed in Perth, Western Australia. The band's name was inspired by a former drummer who was narcoleptic. The band revolves around the distinctive vocal style of multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Luke Steele. Stemming from a musical family, Luke's father Rick Steele is a local blues musician, and two of Luke's siblings are also musicians, with brother Jesse a former member of The Sleepy Jackson, and sister Katy, who fronts another Perth rock band, Little Birdy. While a series of acclaimed EPs brought The Sleepy Jackson to a broader musical attention of Australia, it was the release of their 2003 album Lovers and 2006 second album Personality – One Was a Spider, One Was a Bird that directed significant international focus upon the band.

The Bank Holidays were an Australian indie pop band from Perth, which formed in 2003 as Tunnelball by Nat Carson, James Crombie, Wibekke (Bekk) Reczek and Ian (Stafford) Chater (drums). Late in 2007 Chater was replaced by Stuart Leach. They have issued two studio albums, As a Film and Sail Becomes a Kite. By late 2012 they had effectively disbanded.
Faith in Plastics was a four-piece indie pop/rock band from Perth, Western Australia formed in December 2002 and disbanded in 2007.
The Fergusons were a five piece alternative rock band from Perth, Western Australia, formed in late 1999/early 2000 with members Al Nistelberger, Mike Bruce, Wayne Beadon (guitar), Grant Joyce (bass), and Matt Wheeler (drums). The band gained momentum after their debut gig in March 2000 and went on to release their first EP, "Hurting the Washing Machine," in June 2001, which received local chart success and airplay on Triple J. Notable achievements include winning WAMI awards, signing a deal with Australian independent record label Dew Process in 2003. Despite lineup changes, successful performances, and recording efforts for a debut album, financial constraints led to the severance of ties with Universal Records in 2004. The band officially disbanded in 2005 after playing a farewell gig. Post-split, members pursued other projects, with Nistelberger, Joyce, and Beadon forming the Bipolar Bears. A brief reunion for an acoustic performance occurred in 2007. The Fergusons' debut album, however, remained incomplete.
Harlequin League is a Perth-based rock band formed in 2007.
Yabu Band is an Indigenous Australian rock, roots band formed in 1998 in Kalgoorlie. The word yabu is Wongutha – a western desert tribal language – for 'rock' or 'gold'. Core members are brothers Delson (vocals) and Boyd Stokes ; and Jade Masters (drums) with Lionel Sarmardin. When performing live they are joined by Roy Martinez (bass), Elizabeth Gogos (vocals), Tony Shaw (didgeridoo) and Tim Ayre (keyboards)and other Supporting artist. They won a Deadly award in 2009 for Most Promising New Talent in Music. Delson Stokes Jr was the 1999 NAIDOC Male Youth of the Year. Boyd Stokes won Guitarist of the Year and Jade Masters won Drummer of the Year at the 2009 TOO SOLID Music Awards held in Perth. Yabu are a four time WAMi award winner.
Superego is a collective of producers, rappers singers and multi-instrumentalist artist out of Fremantle, Western Australia, previously known as POW! Negro from 2015 until 2018.
Sly Withers are an Australian alternative rock band from Perth, Western Australia. The band consists of vocalists/guitarists Jono Mata and Sam Blitvich, drummer Joel Neubecker and bassist Shea Moriarty. The line-up of the band has remained unchanged since its 2013 inception, with the band members originally meeting and forming the band while still in high school. Their second studio album, Gardens, debuted and peaked at number 10 on the ARIA Chart on 21 June 2021. A single from the album, "Clarkson", placed in Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2021 at number 69.
