Carl Siegmund Friedrichs Lachs (1832-1910) was a Bavarian-Swedish brewmaster active in Sweden and the United States. [1]

Friedrichs Lax was born on 9 January 1832 in Altdorf bei Nürnberg, Kingdom of Bavaria. He immigrated to Halmstad, Sweden, in 1860; naturalised as Swedish citizen in 1878. [2] He married Fredrika (née Lorentzon) (1845-1941) in Gothenburg in 1866. Their issue included Charlotte Lachs (1867-1920), singer, [3] Alice Brauner (1877-1944), and Charles Lachs (1879-1979), visual artist. [4]

Friedrichs Lachs was active, including as business partner, initially as brewmaster among others at sv:Österman & Co, sv:S:t Eriks Bryggeri, and sv:Nürnbergs Bryggeri. Subsequently he ventured into sv:O. Vallmo & Co, sv:Örebro Bryggeribolag, and sv:Klosterbryggeriet Ystad; the latter accordingly brewing the first Bavarian beer in Sweden, including to the royal court. Furthermore, he brewed Fred Lax's Columbus Ale in New York City, United States. After relocating to Sweden he founded a yeast factory on Södermalm in Stockholm in 1894.

He died on 17 June 1910 and is buried in Sandsborgskyrkogården.

Genesee Brewing Company is an American brewery located along the Genesee River in Rochester, New York. From 2000 to 2009, the company was known as the High Falls Brewing Company. In 2009, High Falls was acquired by the capital investment firm KPS Capital. Together with newly acquired Labatt USA, KPS merged the two companies as North American Breweries. Along with this change, High Falls Brewery changed its name back to the original "Genesee Brewing Company" operating under the North American Breweries name. The Blackstone Brewing Company is a craft brewery in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. Founded by Kent Taylor and Stephanie Weins in 1994, it claims to be Nashville's oldest craft brewery. The original brewpub, called Blackstone Restaurant and Brewery, opened on New Year's Eve 1994 and operated until 2016. In 2011, the company built a production brewery nearby and opened a tap house for the public in 2016. Blackstone also brews traditional European lagers for the Nashville Brewing Company. The city of Rochester, New York—before being known as the birthplace of Kodak, Xerox, and Bausch & Lomb—was internationally known for its robust brewing industry. Indeed, the city was uniquely positioned for such an industry in the early 19th century. The corn, rye, barley, wheat, and other grains grown in the Genesee River Valley were shipped down river to be milled in such quantity that by 1838 Rochester was world's largest flour producer, earning it the nickname the Flour City.
