Brigadier G. R. Jayasinghe, VSV was a Sri Lankan military officer, who was the former head of the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps and founder of the Sri Lanka Rifle Corps in 1984. [1] [2]

Educated at Royal College, Colombo, he joined the army after leaving school. He was commissioned into the Ceylon Army Ordnance Corps as a Second Lieutenant. He served as the Commanding officer of the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps from 1966 to 1969 and from 1969 to 1974. [3]

The Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) is the principal and volunteer reserve force component of the Sri Lanka Army. It is a collective name for the reserve units and the Sri Lanka National Guard. The SLAVF is made up of part-time officers and soldiers. They are paid at a similar rate, while engaged on military activities, as their regular equivalents. This is in contrast to the Regular Army Reserve, which comprises people who have a mobilization obligation following their service in the regular army. Administration and recruitment of reserve personal is carried out by the Volunteer Force Headquarters in Shalawa, Kosgama. The head of the SLAVL is the Commandant of the Volunteer Force.

The Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) - is a Combat Support corps of the Sri Lanka Army. It is made up of six regular regiments and one volunteer (reserve) regiment. Regiment Center located at Kew Road, Slave Island, Colombo. Present strength of the Corps is 145 Officers and 4150 ORs.

Jagath Jayasuriya, VSV, USP, ndc, psc is a retired Sri Lanka Army general, and a former Chief of Defence Staff of the Sri Lankan military and Commander of the Sri Lankan Army. During the closing stages of the Sri Lankan Civil War, he served as the Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni with overall command of SLA offensives in the Wanni region during the 2008 - 2009 period. He was also the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Suriname from June 2014 to August 2017.

He is the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and the former Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 53 Division and was a former Deputy Ambassador to Brazil. He was the Commanding Officer of the 53 Division in Sri Lanka Army, that is believed to have killed the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.

He was the 11th Commander of the Sri Lankan Army (1988-1991), third General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Joint Operations Headquarters (JOH) (1991-1993) and Permanent Secretary for Defense. was the 11th Commander of the Sri Lankan Army (1993-1995). He was appointed on 16 August 1988 until 15 November 1991. He was succeeded by Cecil Waidyaratne.
