GB (Grand Bazar) was a Belgian supermarket chain, until 2000 owned by the GIB Group when it was taken over by the Carrefour Group.

In 1958 the first Super GB is created and opened.

In 1961 the first GB hypermarkets, the first ever stores of this format in Europe, are created under the name of Superbazar in Auderghem, Anderlecht and Bruges. These are the first hypermarkets to open outside the united States. [1] The SuperBazar stores all were reorganized as Maxi GB in 1985.

In 1997 the first GB Express is opened in Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, in the same year, Super GB Partner and Contact GB are created.

In July 2000, Carrefour Group S.A. takes over the GIB Group and modernizes and rebrands all Maxi GB hypermarkets to Carrefour, the other GB stores stays under the GB brand, all those stores will also be renovated.

In 2007 Super GB, Super GB Partner and Contact GB all become Carrefour GB and GB Express stores become Carrefour Express.

Since 2009, Carrefour GB stores in Belgium are re-branding to Carrefour Market, all GB stores will eventually be a Market store in Belgium in 2013/2014.

In 2010 some of these Carrefour supermarkets were closed in a reorganization, while a few of them in Brussels and Wallonia were sold to an independent franchise together with Champion supermarkets, which became re-branded, as Carrefour Market-Groupe Mestdagh.

As of May 2013, there are 58 GB supermarkets left in Belgium, 28 Champion stores in Wallonia, and 431 GB stores have already become Carrefour Market. [2] [3]

Marinopoulos Market

Marinopoulos Super Markets was a Greek retailer. It was formed in 1995 as a 50-50 joint venture between the Greek Marinopoulos Group and the French Carrefour Group, but, in 2012, Carrefour decided to withdraw from the joint venture due to the Greek crisis. It was the biggest retail chain in Greece in terms of both turnover and number of stores. As of 2015, the company operates over 700 stores. Carrefour Marinopoulos in 2013 had a revenue of €1.74 billion and profits €131 million. Marinopoulos brothers have a fortune of around €270 million.

Intermarché

Intermarché is the brand of a general commercial French supermarket, part of the large retail group Les Mousquetaires founded in 1969 under the name EX Offices, by Jean-Pierre Le Roch. EX Offices was renamed Intermarché in 1972.

Carrefour Express is a convenience store chain owned and operated by French retailer Carrefour with locations in three continents. Carrefour Express was created in 2007 to consolidate all convenience stores owned by Carrefour worldwide under one name. In 2010, all convenience store operations in France, including Marché Plus, Champion and Shopi were rebranded as Express.

GIB Group

GIB Group was a Belgian conglomerate, consisting of various retail and restaurant chains that existed until 2002. GIB Group owned GB super/hypermarkets, Brico, Inno, Quick restaurants, Lunch Garden self-service restaurants, Auto 5 car wash/service chain, Nopri, GIB Immo, Christiaensen and Unic.
