Gaming Scotland

Gaming Scotland is a non-profit organisation which hosts regular LAN party events in Scotland These events are hosted at either Grangemouth Scout Hall or the Dobbie Hall in Larbert, Scotland, and accommodate twenty-five to one hundred people, depending on venue.

A LAN party is a gathering of people with computers or compatible game consoles, where a local area network (LAN) connection is established between the devices using a router or switch, primarily for the purpose of playing multiplayer video games together. The size of these networks may vary from as few as two people, to very large gatherings of a hundred or more. Small parties can form spontaneously and take advantage of common household networking equipment, but larger ones typically require more planning, equipment, and preparation.

Larbert is a small town in the Falkirk council area of Scotland. The town lies in the Forth Valley above the River Carron which flows from the west. Larbert is 3 miles (4.8 km) from the shoreline of the Firth of Forth and 2.5 miles (4.0 km) northwest of Falkirk, the main town in the area. The village of Stenhousemuir lies directly east of Larbert, with both settlements being contiguous and sharing certain public amenities with one another. In recent times the town has received significant national media coverage for its regular invitational ping pong series. It is said that the origin of the tournament slogan ‘Land of the free, home of the chop’ is attributed to the style of backhand shots played by one of the tournament professionals. The prestigious tournament often hosts guest appearances from competitors, travelling from London on a monthly basis to participate.

History

Gaming Scotland was formed from the remnants of Gumpcom LAN Party when it was shut down in late 2010. The organisation is currently administered by 3 of Gumpcom's longest serving former staff members, who also staff the events alongside a few willing volunteers. Gaming Scotland as an organisation has run five successful events as of July 2011, although the staff have experience spanning the seven years of Gumpcom, including Gumpcom-LAN #15, [1] the largest Scottish LAN party in current history.

Gaming Scotland currently hosts two LAN parties, small 25 man LANs in Grangemouth and large 100man+ events in Larbert.

Grangemouth town in east Stirlingshire and is part of the Falkirk council area, Scotland

Grangemouth is a town in the Falkirk council area, Scotland. Historically part of the county of Stirlingshire, the town lies in the Forth Valley, on the banks of the Firth of Forth, 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Falkirk, 5 miles (8.0 km) west of Bo'ness and 13 miles (20.9 km) south-east of Stirling. Grangemouth had a resident population of 17,906 according to the 2001 Census. Preliminary figures from the 2011 census reported the number as 17,373.

The small events are community focused and do not have many tournament games or sponsored prizes.

The larger events have tournaments in some of the most popular computer games including; Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Rocket League, Dota2, Overwatch and Warsow and is considered to have a more competitive edge in comparison to the Grangemouth events.

<i>Rocket League</i> 2015 vehicular soccer video game

Rocket League is a vehicular soccer video game developed and published by Psyonix. The game was first released for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4 in July 2015, with ports for Xbox One, macOS, Linux, and Nintendo Switch being released later on. In June 2016, 505 Games began distributing a physical retail version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment taking over those duties by the end of 2017.

The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament is generally the most popular, with up to 8 teams. The past few years the tournament has been dominated by a team known as click2kill. The captain of c2k, jMz had this to say about the Gaming Scotland LANs: "Gaming Scotland LANs are holding the LAN community of Scotland together with their regular, fun and social LANs. There is a whole host of games played ranging from battle arena, to survival games. The competitive side isn't taken too seriously which is great for newcomers and those who like a little bit of competitive play but don't want to spend the full weekend concentrating on one game. We've been coming since GS #17 which was our first CS:GO LAN win and we've managed to dominate and win a fair few more Dobbie Hall CS:GO tournaments."

CyberSlam is an online Australian competitive gaming and technology business. It operates a number of online multiplayer gaming servers and a community forum. CyberSlam started out in 2003 under CBN Media as its gaming division, and some 10 years on in April 2013, has officially been relaunched in BETA under all-new management after almost three years of hiatus. LANcouver was a LAN party first hosted on the North Shore of Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It was started in January 2004 and has hosted seven successful events, with the last event in July 2011. The event has attracted an average of approximately 50–120 attendees per event. LANcouver is a BYOC event, which means that everyone attending brings their own PC desktop or laptop. Network resources and power connections are supplied and connected by the administrators on-site during the event, who also host the various servers required for playing LAN based games such as Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, and Unreal Tournament. LANcouver organizers have also been responsible for running tournaments at other events such as GottaCon 2012.

The Falkirk Herald is a weekly newspaper and daily news website published by JPIMedia. It provides reportage, opinion and analysis of news, current affairs and sport in the towns of Falkirk, Grangemouth, Larbert and Denny as well as the neighbouring villages of Polmont, Redding, Brightons, Banknock and Bonnybridge. The paper's circulation area has a total population of 151,600, the fifth largest urban area in Scotland. The Falkirk Herald had an audited circulation of 21,937 in the six months from July-December 2012, making it the biggest selling local weekly newspaper in Scotland. Organised Chaos LAN Party

Organised Chaos, was a monthly LAN Party held in Cape Town, South Africa at the Sunningdale Sports Complex as well as other venues in both Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth. The LAN has a current capacity of 540 after moving away from the Bellville Velodrome in April 2012. The largest LAN Party held by Organised Chaos was in December 2010 at the Bellville Velodrome with a total of 1263 attendees. Its main organizers are Dietmar Rheeder-Kleist, Lance Aylward and Kyra Rheeder-Kleist. It is currently the largest monthly gaming event and LAN party in Africa

Team Liquid is a multi-regional professional esports organization based in the Netherlands that was founded in 2000. With the release of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, Team Liquid signed their first professional players.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is a multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed by Hidden Path Entertainment and Valve Corporation. It is the fourth game in the Counter-Strike series and was released for Microsoft Windows, OS X, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on August 21, 2012, while the Linux version was released in 2014.

OpTic Gaming is an American professional esports organization with teams competing in Call of Duty,Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Gears of War, League of Legends, Overwatch and Fortnite Battle Royale. Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács is a Slovak professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) player and former Counter-Strike: Source (CS:S) and Counter-Strike (CS) player. GuardiaN has played at a high level in all three mentioned Counter-Strike games. He is known for being one of the best players with the AWP and one of the best players overall. Michael Grzesiek, professionally known as shroud, is a Polish-Canadian Twitch streamer and former professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) player. He is known for playing PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Call of Duty Black Ops 4: Blackout, Rainbow Six Siege and more recently Apex Legends.
