Gary Sherrer (born September 3,1940) is an American former politician. He was the 45th Lieutenant Governor of Kansas from 1996 to 2003. He is an alumnus of Emporia State University. [1]
Kansas is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka and its largest city is Wichita. Kansas is a landlocked state bordering with Nebraska to the north;Missouri to the east;Oklahoma to the south;and Colorado to the west. Kansas is named after the Kansas River,which in turn was named after the Kansa Native Americans who lived along its banks. The tribe's name is often said to mean "people of the (south) wind" although this was probably not the term's original meaning. For thousands of years,what is now Kansas was home to numerous and diverse Native American tribes. Tribes in the eastern part of the state generally lived in villages along the river valleys. Tribes in the western part of the state were semi-nomadic and hunted large herds of bison.
Kansas City is the largest city in Missouri by population and area. According to the U.S. Census Bureau,the city had a population of 508,090 in 2020,and was the 36th most-populous city in the United States as of the 2020 census. It is the most populated municipality and historic core city of the Kansas City metropolitan area,which straddles the Kansas–Missouri state line and has a population of 2,392,035. Most of the city lies within Jackson County,but portions spill into Clay,Cass,and Platte counties. Kansas City was founded in the 1830s as a Missouri River port at its confluence with the Kansas River coming in from the west. On June 1,1850,the town of Kansas was incorporated;shortly after came the establishment of the Kansas Territory. Confusion between the two ensued,and the name Kansas City was assigned to distinguish them soon after.

Robert Joseph Dole was an American politician and attorney who represented Kansas in the United States Senate from 1969 to 1996. He was the Republican Leader of the Senate during the final 11 years of his tenure,including three non-consecutive years as Senate Majority Leader. Prior to his 27 years in the Senate,he served in the United States House of Representatives from 1961 to 1969. Dole was also the Republican presidential nominee in the 1996 election and the vice presidential nominee in the 1976 election.
John Brown was an American abolitionist leader. First reaching national prominence for his radical abolitionism and fighting in Bleeding Kansas,he was eventually captured and executed for a failed incitement of a slave rebellion at Harpers Ferry preceding the American Civil War. A man of strong religious convictions,Brown believed he was "an instrument of God",raised up to strike the death blow to American slavery,a "sacred obligation". Brown was the leading exponent of violence in the American abolitionist movement:he believed that violence was necessary to end American slavery,since decades of peaceful efforts had failed. Brown said repeatedly that in working to free the enslaved he was following the Golden Rule,as well as the U.S. Declaration of Independence,which states that "all men are created equal".
James Naismith was a Canadian-American physical educator,physician,Christian chaplain,sports coach,and inventor of the game of basketball. After moving to the United States,he wrote the original basketball rule book and founded the University of Kansas basketball program. Naismith lived to see basketball adopted as an Olympic demonstration sport in 1904 and as an official event at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin,as well as the birth of the National Invitation Tournament (1938) and the NCAA Tournament (1939).
Charles Curtis was an American attorney and Republican politician from Kansas who served as the 31st vice president of the United States from 1929 to 1933. He also previously served as the Senate Majority Leader from 1924 to 1929.

Samuel Dale Brownback is an American attorney,politician,diplomat and member of the Republican Party who served as the United States Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom from 2018 to 2021. Brownback previously served as the Secretary of Agriculture of Kansas (1986–93),as the U.S. representative for Kansas's 2nd congressional district (1995–96),as a United States senator from Kansas (1996–2011) and the 46th governor of Kansas (2011–18). He also ran for the Republican nomination for President in 2008.
Dennis Lynn Rader is an American serial killer known as BTK,the BTK Strangler or the BTK Killer. Between 1974 and 1991,Rader killed ten people in Wichita and Park City,Kansas,and sent taunting letters to police and newspapers describing the details of his crimes. After a decade-long hiatus,Rader resumed sending letters in 2004,leading to his 2005 arrest and subsequent guilty plea. He is serving ten consecutive life sentences at El Dorado Correctional Facility in Prospect Township,Butler County,Kansas.

Billy Eugene Self Jr. is an American basketball coach. He is the head men's basketball coach at the University of Kansas,a position he has held since 2003. During his 18 seasons as head coach,he has led the Jayhawks to 15 Big 12 regular season championships,including a share of an NCAA record 14 consecutive Big 12 regular season championships (2005–2018). He has also led the Jayhawks to three NCAA Final Four appearances,and the 2008 NCAA championship. Self was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017. Self,as of the end of the 2020–21 season,has the 19th most wins among Division I coaches in NCAA history and 6th among active head coaches. He is the second-winningest coach in Kansas history,behind only Hall of Famer Phog Allen.
Forrest Clare "Phog" Allen was an American basketball coach. Known as the "Father of Basketball Coaching," he served as the head basketball coach at Baker University (1905–1908),the University of Kansas,Haskell Institute—now Haskell Indian Nations University (1908–1909),and Warrensburg Teachers College—now the University of Central Missouri (1912–1919),compiling a career college basketball record of 746–264. In his 39 seasons at the helm of the Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball program,his teams won 24 conference championships and three national titles. The Helms Athletic Foundation retroactively recognized Allen's 1921–22 and 1922–23 Kansas teams as national champions. Allen's 1951–52 squad won the 1952 NCAA Tournament and his Jayhawks were runners-up in the NCAA Tournament in 1940 and 1953. His 590 wins are the most of any coach in the history of the storied Kansas basketball program.
