Geoffrey Stewart Brown OBE (born c. 1943) is a Scottish businessman. He was chairman of St Johnstone from 1986 until November 2011.

In 1970, Brown founded G. S. Brown Construction, which specialises in homebuilding. Brown is still chairman of the company, which is a family business, with two of his sons also on the board of directors. In June 2011, it was revealed that the company was set to become the shirt sponsors of the club, to mark Brown's quarter-century as chairman. [1]

Brown took control of St Johnstone in 1986, when they were in deep financial trouble and near the bottom of the Scottish Football League. A rights issue raised £150,000, which solved the club's short-term financial problems. [2]

Alex Totten was soon appointed as manager. Under his guidance, the club made a rise from second-bottom in the Scottish Second Division in 1986 to mid-table in the Scottish Premier Division in late 1990. During this period, Brown oversaw the sale of Muirton Park to Asda and the club's move to a newly built McDiarmid Park stadium in the Tulloch area of the city, which was opened in 1989.

In August 2006, to mark Brown's twentieth anniversary as chairman of St Johnstone, the Perthshire Advertiser published his best-of-Saints XI from the past two decades:

As Steve Lomas was presented to the media as the new St Johnstone manager in November 2011, Brown announced that he was going to pass control of the club to his son Steven. [3]

Personal life

Brown married his wife, Joyce, in 1962 and they have three sons (Stuart, Steve and Scott) and a daughter, Susan. His son, Steve, succeeded him as chairman of St Johnstone. Brown is also a racehorse owner and breeder. [4]

Brown underwent a successful operation for prostate cancer in July 2001. [5]

He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2022 New Year Honours for services to Scottish football and the community in Perth. [6] [7]

St Johnstone Football Club is a professional football club in Perth, Scotland. The name of the football club derives from St. John's Toun – the old name of Perth. Harry Gregg Northern Irish footballer and manager

Henry Gregg, was a Northern Irish professional footballer and manager. A goalkeeper, he played for Manchester United during the reign of Sir Matt Busby, with a total of 247 appearances for the club. He was a survivor of the Munich air disaster in 1958. Gregg also played for Doncaster Rovers and Stoke City, as well as making 25 appearances for the Northern Ireland national team between 1954 and 1963, including at the 1958 FIFA World Cup. He later went into management with Carlisle United, Crewe Alexandra, Shrewsbury Town and Swansea City.

William Esplin Ormond was a Scottish football player and manager. As a player, Ormond was well known as one of Hibernian's Famous Five forward line, winning three league championships in the late 1940s and early 1950s. After a successful spell managing St Johnstone he led Scotland to the 1974 World Cup finals. Scotland were unbeaten at that World Cup, but were eliminated on goal difference.

Daniel Joseph Griffin is a Northern Irish retired footballer. He was primarily a defender, but could also play in midfield. He is a youth coach with his first professional club, St Johnstone.

Callum Iain Davidson is a Scottish professional football player and coach. He is the manager of St Johnstone. Davidson played as a left-back for St Johnstone, Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City and Preston North End between 1994 and 2014. At international level, Davidson represented Scotland on 19 occasions between 1998 and 2009. Since retiring as a player, Davidson has become a football coach, and was given his first full-time role in management with St Johnstone in June 2020.

David Robertson is a Scottish former footballer, who played as an attacking midfielder for Dundee United, St Johnstone, Greenock Morton, Livingston, Ayr United, Selkirk and Cowdenbeath. He won the Scottish Cup with Dundee United in 2010 and represented the Scotland under-21 team. Robertson retired from football in January 2017.

Kevin John Moon is a Scottish footballer, who last played as a midfielder for Scottish League Two club Stirling Albion. He began his career with St. Johnstone and was part of the side which gained promotion to the Scottish Premier League in the 2008–09 season. He also tasted promotion with Alloa Athletic and won the Scottish Challenge Cup with both St. Johnstone and Raith Rovers. He has also played in Australia for ECU Joondalup SC.

James McIntosh Weir is a Scottish professional football player and coach. Weir played in the senior Scottish leagues for Hamilton Academical, Hearts and St. Johnstone. He has also worked as manager of Montrose, Arbroath, Brechin City, Elgin City and Forfar Athletic.

Roderick John Grant is an English-born Scottish former professional footballer. He played for seven clubs during a 19-year playing career, beginning as a trainee with Cowdenbeath in 1989 and closing out his professional career with Peterhead in the 2003/2004 season.

Ian Petrie Redford was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a midfielder or forward. He played for Dundee before joining Rangers for a then Scottish record transfer fee. At Rangers he won in three domestic cup finals. He then joined Dundee United where he scored in the 1987 UEFA Cup semi final win against Borussia Mönchengladbach. David Robert Mackay is a Scottish former professional football player and coach, and currently the assistant manager of Dundee. He played as a defender for Dundee, Brechin City, Arbroath, Oxford United, Livingston and St Johnstone. Mackay captained St Johnstone when they won the 2014 Scottish Cup Final. After retiring as a player in 2016, Mackay was then manager of Stirling Albion for two years, before returning to Dundee.
