Georgina Cook is a British photographer, artist and writer based in South London.

Cook is from Streatham, London. She is known primarily for her music work [1] [2] but also for her use of gritty urban street elements as the subtext to what she documents.

She is behind Drumz Of The South; a blog relating to London's underground music cultures, grime and dubstep. [2] [3] In 2005, she was interviewed for a BBC Radio 1 video documentary on dubstep in Brixton. [4]

Cook contributes her photographs to music and arts publications such as XLR8R, [5] The Wire, [1] Time Out, [6] BBC Radio 1, [7] The Daily Telegraph, [8] The Society for Curious Thought, [9] Qvest Edition and The Village Voice . Her images have been used for CD and vinyl releases including Dubstep Allstars Vol. 2 mixed by DJ Youngsta (Tempa), Burial's Untrue (Hyperdub) and Steppas' Delight (Soul Jazz Records).

Beryl Cook, OBE was a British artist best known for her original and instantly recognisable paintings. She had no formal training and did not take up painting until her thirties. Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in South London in the early 2000s. It is generally characterised by sparse, syncopated rhythmic patterns with prominent sub-bass frequencies. The style emerged as an offshoot of UK garage, drawing on a lineage of related styles such as 2-step and dub reggae, as well as jungle, broken beat, and grime. In the United Kingdom, the origins of the genre can be traced back to the growth of the Jamaican sound system party scene in the early 1980s.

Digital Mystikz

Digital Mystikz are a dubstep production duo consisting of Mala and Coki from the South London suburb of Norwood. Along with Loefah and SGT Pokes, who make up the group ASBO, they operate the DMZ record label and host the influential bimonthly nightclub DMZ, held at the Mass club complex in Brixton, London. BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel was an early supporter of Digital Mystikz, eventually putting them in his annual 2004 top 50 list at number 29. They are among the scene's most famous producers. Their song "Anti War Dub" appeared in the 2006 film Children of Men, although it wasn't included in the soundtrack. In the summer of 2008, Mala was chosen to headline the night portion of the Sónar Festival in Barcelona. In April 2011, Mala travelled to Cuba with Gilles Peterson who was returning to Havana to produce the second instalment in the Havana Cultura series. While Peterson recorded new material with local musicians, Mala began work on a new album Mala in Cuba, which was released in September 2012.

Vaccine is a female dubstep record producer based in California, United States. She was one of the first women signed to a dubstep related record label, which was up until then, a genre whose producers were almost entirely male.

DJ Chef, also known as Chefal, is a dubstep DJ from South London. XLR8R has called him "One of U.K. pirate radio’s biggest dubstep DJs". He is an employee of Transition Mastering Studio, which XLR8R called "dubstep’s most renowned acetate-cutting studio." In 2010 Chef, Plastician and P Money represented for London on the BBC Dubstep Soundclash and won.

Bitpop is a type of electronic music and subgenre of chiptune music, where at least part of the music is made using the sound chips of old 8-bit computers and video game consoles.

Katy on a Mission 2010 single by Katy B

"Katy on a Mission" is a song performed by British recording artist Katy B. It was released by Rinse accompanied by a B-side titled "Louder" as her debut single and lead single from her debut album, On a Mission, on 22 August 2010. The song was co-written by Benga, Katy B and Geeneus, and produced by Benga. Musically, the song is constructed around beats, synths and a bassline found most prominent in the dubstep music genre. It achieved charting success in the United Kingdom where it topped the UK Dance Chart and UK Indie Chart while peaking at number five on the UK Singles Chart. The single was accompanied by a music video which was directed by Johny Mourgue.

Post-dubstep Electronic music genre, British development of dubstep

Post-dubstep is an umbrella term applied to a range of musical styles that have been influenced by the sparse, syncopated rhythms and heavy sub-bass of the UK dubstep scene. The breadth of styles associated with the term post-dubstep precluded it from being a specific musical genre in the early 2010s. Such music often references earlier dubstep productions as well as UK garage, 2-step and other forms of underground electronic dance music. Artists producing music that has been described as post-dubstep have also incorporated elements of ambient music and early 2000s R&B. The latter in particular is heavily sampled by two artists described as post-dubstep, Mount Kimbie and James Blake. The tempo of music typically characterised as post-dubstep is approximately 130 beats per minute.

<i>Playin Me</i> 2012 studio album by Cooly G

Playin' Me is the debut studio album of British UK funky musician Merissa Campbell, known by her stage name as Cooly G. It wasn't until more than a year before the release of Playin' Me that Campbell began work on a full-length debut album as suggested by Hyperdub founder Kode9. Previously-released cuts including "Up in My Head," "Landscapes," and "It's Serious" appeared on the album's final track listing.
