Geraint Wyn Hopkins, otherwise known as Geraint the Snakeman, is a television personality known for his work with reptiles. [1] He has presented programmes on exotic pets in the UK and appeared on a number of programmes on animals, pets, ghosts and local affairs. He also runs Ghost Watch Wales, a paranormal investigation business, [2] and is credited with inviting Most Haunted to a number of locations in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire and Port Talbot.

Hopkins was born in Hendy, Wales, and has lived in Llanelli [3] most of his life. He was named the snakeman after his charity work, raising funds for various charities through his shows with reptiles. Since the 1990s Hopkins has been more involved with conservation of British species and husbandry of tropical species of reptiles and amphibians. He visits schools and colleges giving educational talks and displays on reptiles and advises veterinarians on reptile diseases.

Hopkins has been a controversial figure politically standing up for local causes including the fight to save the Prince Philip Hospital A&E department and the neurosurgery at Morriston Hospital. [4]

Hopkins has given private showings and talks to a number of celebrities including Anthony Hopkins [5] and frequently gives educational talks at Margam Country Park near Port Talbot.

Twin Town is a 1997 Welsh dark comedy crime drama film filmed mainly around Port Talbot and set in Swansea, Wales. It was directed by Kevin Allen and had a working title of Hot Dog; a hot dog van features in a number of scenes in the film. It stars real-life brothers Rhys Ifans and Llŷr Ifans along with Dougray Scott. The director appears on screen, briefly seen as a show host on a TV set in the static caravan home of the twins while co-writer Paul Durden briefly appears as a rude taxi driver.

Margam Castle

Margam Castle is a large Victorian era country house, built in Margam, Port Talbot, Wales, for Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot (1803–1890). It was constructed over a ten-year period, from 1830 to 1840, on a site which had been occupied for some 4,000 years and which from the 11th century until the dissolution of the monasteries was an abbey.

Derek Acorah English television personality

Derek Francis Johnson, known professionally as Derek Acorah, was a British spiritual medium. He was best known for his television work on Most Haunted, broadcast on Living TV (2002–2010). His career as a medium was punctuated by allegations of fakery and he also attracted controversy over a number of seances during which he, reportedly, made contact with high-profile figures.

Geraint Davies (rugby league)

Geraint Rhys Davies, is a Welsh former professional rugby league and rugby union footballer who played in the 2000s and 2010s. He played representative level rugby league (RL) for Wales, and at club level in Super League for the Crusaders, on loan from the Crusaders at South Wales Scorpions and the Limoux Grizzlies as a second-row or loose forward, and played club level rugby union (RU) for Llanelli Scarlets (Academy). He is also known as “the Welsh Phil Mitchell”, and claimed this title when he lost in a 100m race to Steve McFadden during a charity event in Hendy park where Geraint used to conduct his sprint training.

Raymond Terrence Hoser is an Australian snake-catcher and author. Since 1976, he has written books and articles about official corruption in Australia. He has also written works on Australian frogs and reptiles and operates a business called reptile parties, in Melbourne. He is also a government licensed snake catcher doing snake removal work with venomous snakes. Some of Hoser's work is controversial, including his advocacy of the surgical alteration of captive snakes to remove their venom glands and his self-published herpetological taxonomy, which has been described as "taxonomic vandalism".
