German-Jordanian University (GJU) is a public university located near Madaba, Jordan. It offers more than 20 programs to over 6,000 students, primarily from Jordan and the Middle East. The curriculum differs from other Jordanian universities, with German language courses offered as preparation for the fourth academic year at a university of applied sciences in Germany and an introduction to German industry through an obligatory internship within the framework of the study program.
In August 2004 a founding committee, in cooperation with Jordan's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, began its activities in Jordan. The university's programs are designed to encourage the training of young professionals to move back and forth between Europe and the Middle East.[ citation needed ] GJU was founded on April 25, 2005, by royal decree, in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of the Federal Republic of Germany.[ citation needed ]
His Majesty King Abdullah II, in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, inaugurated the permanent site of the German Jordanian University in Al-Mushqar, near Madaba. [2]
Prof. Manar Fayyad was appointed president of the university in 2017, after being its vice-president from 2013 to 2017. [3] [4]
Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli was appointed the President of the German Jordanian University as of August 23, 2021 By a Royal Decree. [5] Al-Halhouli was a professor at the School of Applied Technical Sciences (SATS) and the Dean of the School of Applied Humanities and Languages (SAHL) at GJU. He also held the position of the President of the Middle East University in Jordan in 2019. [6]
GJU comprises two campuses in Jordan.
Main Campus in Amman Madaba Street, Madaba’s campus offers a range of undergraduate courses. It contains Seven Schools. All Departments, Offices, the Library, Four Centers, three Deanships run from the Main Campus.[ citation needed ]
Jabal Amman Campus: located in downtown Amman, includes the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE), three centers and Deanship of Graduate Studies, Library, Student Affairs office, and the German Lounge/Dialogpunkt.[ citation needed ]
In cooperation with the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, the project team joined about 70 German universities of applied sciences into a consortium. Its members design the study programs' curricula, recruit qualified German academic staff and host German students during their year. The consortium is open to additional German-language universities of applied sciences.[ citation needed ] The five-year study programs at GJU follow the model of the German Fachhochschulen (universities of applied sciences), with their philosophy of industry-based practice and an application-oriented approach to knowledge. A large percentage of German professors comprise the academic staff, and courses in German and English as a foreign language are offered to encourage fluency. After an initial phase in English, program courses are taught predominantly in German.[ citation needed ]
All the students spend one year in Germany, 50% within a partner university, 50% within a company. [7]
GJU comprises two campuses in Jordan, the Main Campus in Amman Madaba Street and the Jabal Amman Campus located in downtown Amman. The latter offers the School of Architecture and Built Environment, as well as postgraduate studies and Master's programs. [8]
Bachelor students must travel to Germany for one year. This is called the German Year. [9] Students spend two semesters there; the first is a study semester and the second is for internship. GJU has partnerships with German universities and industries to facilitate these activities. [10] [11]
GJU launched its first Dual Studies track in 2018 to bridge the gap between theoretical education and practical experience with the support of the German government implemented through giz. [12] Since then 13 majors were incorporated with Dual Studies Programs in business school, computer science and engineering, school of applied technical Sciences, chemical and pharmaceutical engineering, architecture and built environment, design and visual communication, English and German for business and communication. [13] GJU has expanded its industrial partnerships to support the program where the number of companies has reached 79. [14]
A Fachhochschule, abbreviated FH, is a university of applied sciences (UAS), in other words a German tertiary education institution that provides professional education in many applied sciences and applied arts, such as engineering, technology, business, architecture, design, and industrial design.
The Islamic University of Madinah is a public Islamic university in Medina, Saudi Arabia. Established by King Saud bin Abdulaziz in 1961, the institute is said to have been associated with Salafism, while claiming to have exported Salafi-inclined theologians around the world. The Jordan University of Science and Technology, often abbreviated JUST, is a public technological university located on the outskirts of Irbid, at Ar Ramtha in northern Jordan. Esslingen University of Applied Sciences or Hochschule Esslingen is a public University of Applied Sciences in Esslingen am Neckar, Germany. The Hashemite University, often abbreviated HU, is a public university in Jordan. It was established in 1995. The university is located in the vicinity of the city of Zarqa. As regards to the study systems, it applies the credit hour system. Each college has its own number of credit hours. It is the first university in Jordan to apply the Two-Summer-Semester system. The Hashemite University offers a variety of different master programs. It also offers an international admission program which allows non-Jordanian students to enroll at the university.

The American University of Madaba is a non-profit university located in Madaba, Jordan. It opened in October 2011, and expects to eventually accommodate 8,000 students once the campus is completed. The standards of teaching qualifications and experience satisfy the accreditation requirements of the Higher Education Accreditation Commission (HEAC) in Jordan.

Amin Mahmoud is a Jordanian politician, educator and author. He has served three times as a member of the cabinet of Ministers of Jordan, once as a member of the XXIV Senate of Jordan, and is currently serving as a member of the XXVI senate council. He has also held the position of president of four Jordanian universities. His written works include a wide range of books, research papers and published articles in the fields of history, education and other public issues.
Rami Daher is a Jordanian architect, academic, and public intellectual specializing in architectural conservation and urban design. He is currently an associate professor at the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the German Jordanian University and general director of TURATH, an architectural and urban design consultancy in Amman, which has executed several major interventions in historic and heritage settings.

Mahmoud Saeed al-Karmi was a Palestinian writer, scholar of Arabic language, poet, and political journalist. He is considered one of the Symbols of the national movement in Palestine and Jordan. He was born in Tulkram in Palestine for well-known family, his father is Saeed Alkarmi, his brothers are, Abdulkareem, Hassan, Abd al-Ghani and Ahmad Shakir. He was Graduated from Al Azhar in Arabic language. He worked in Arabic language field in Egypt and Eritrea, Somalia, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan for many years. He worked also in Journalism. He was assassinated by his political opponents in Beirut.
Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah bin Laboun is a Saudi geologist, traveler, and historian specializing in petroleum geology. His interest in geology and oil history in Saudi Arabia extended to other fields including history and popular literature. Wael Raddad is a Jordanian novelist, screenwriter and painter of Palestinian origin, the Emirate of Ras al-Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates, his birthplace and residence. He holds a B.A. in Accounting from Al-Quds Open University. He is considered one of the first and most important writers in Jordan and Palestine in the genres of horror, crime and science fiction. He has published more than 10 novels, and won several competitions, including the Sharjah Theatre Days Competition in theatrical writing for the play “The Fall of the Last Angel”.
Hind Ghassan Tawfiq Abu al-Shaer, a Jordanian writer and researcher with many works. Born in Ajloun in northern Jordan, she worked in several public schools and finished her master in 1994, where she completed her work at universities that started at the University of Jordan and then university to the house, she has chaired the editing of a few print literary periodicals. She presented a documentary radio program on Jordanian radio entitled "Jordanian Papers" for three sessions (2005-2011).
Hani Naqshabandi was a Saudi journalist, writer and novelist who had been included in several press positions, including editor-in-chief of Sayidaty Magazine and the Majalla political magazine, and co-founded The Man magazine.
Abdulghaphor Hajjieh is an economist and politician from Kuwait, who served as a board member for the Democratic Forum and the Youth Association of Kuwait.
