Limavady is a market town in County Londonderry,Northern Ireland,with Binevenagh as a backdrop. Lying 17 miles (27 km) east of Derry and 14 miles (23 km) southwest of Coleraine,Limavady had a population of 12,032 people at the 2011 Census. Claire Sugden is a Northern Ireland politician who was the Minister of Justice in the fourth Northern Ireland Executive from May 2016 to March 2017. She is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for East Londonderry,having been co-opted to the position after the death of David McClarty in 2014,and won election to the seat in 2016,2017 and 2022. She is an Independent Unionist,and is considered to be one of the most socially liberal unionist MLAs in the Assembly.
The first election to Causeway Coast and Glens District Council, part of the Northern Ireland local elections on 22 May 2014,returned 40 members to the newly formed council via Single Transferable Vote. The Democratic Unionist Party won a plurality of first-preference votes and seats.
