Gerry Storey MBE (born 1936, Belfast, Northern Ireland) is a boxing trainer who has coached the Irish Olympic Boxing Team on four occasions. [1]

Storey is the head coach of the Holy Family Boxing Club in North Belfast. [2] Storey and the club were featured in the BBC documentary Fight Town in 2003, and the club also appeared in the Daniel Day-Lewis film The Boxer . [3] [4] Storey has trained many boxers including Hugh Russell, Neil Sinclair, Barry McGuigan, Paddy Barnes and Carl Frampton.[ citation needed ]

McGuigan was training by Storey from the age of 14 through to his Olympic and Commonwealth bids, and claims Storey's club is the "most successful boxing club in the country". [4] Storey's son Sam was also an accomplished amateur boxer who competed in the 1984 Summer Olympics, the 1986 Commonwealth Games and won the British Supermiddleweight title as a professional. Storey's work has helped to bridge the sectarian divide in Belfast, as he trains both Catholics and Protestants. [4] [6] During the 1981 Irish hunger strike he was asked by Loyalist and Republican prisoners to oversee boxing training in the Maze Prison gymnasium. [2] As a result of his work he won the Sport For Good award at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Estoril, Portugal on 16 May 2005. Storey received his award from Barry McGuigan and Marvin Hagler, and was the first Irish sportsperson to win a Laureus award. [1] Storey was honoured by the Irish Amateur Boxing Association for his contribution to the sport in Dublin on 2 February 2007. [7]

Storey was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2008 New Year Honours, "for services to Boxing in Northern Ireland". [8]

He was married to Belle for many years and has three sons and one daughter. His sons Gerry Junior and Sam were successful boxers. [9] [10] [11]

Damaen Kelly is a British former professional boxer from Belfast, Northern Ireland, who competed from 1997 to 2006. He held the IBO flyweight title from 2000 to 2001 and the IBO super-flyweight title in 2004, and once challenged for the IBF flyweight title in 2003. At regional level, he held the Commonwealth flyweight title from 1998 to 1999; the British flyweight title in 1999; and the European flyweight title in 2000. As an amateur he represented Ireland in the flyweight division, winning bronze medals at the 1993 World Championships and 1996 European Championships, and reached the quarter-finals of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, US.

As an amateur, McCloskey won a silver medal in the welterweight division at the 2003 European Union Championships, and was an Irish Senior amateur champion.

Samuel Storey is a former professional boxer. Storey fought at Super Middleweight and won the British title in 1995. From Marsden Gardens in North Belfast, one the areas of Belfast hit hardest during the Troubles, Storey was introduced to boxing from an early age by his father, Gerry, the Irish National Coach.

Martin Lindsay is a former professional boxer from Northern Ireland who competed from 2004 to 2014. He held the IBF Youth featherweight title in 2007. At regional level, he held the British featherweight title from 2009 to 2010 and challenged twice for the Commonwealth featherweight title between 2013 and 2014.

Lauren Louise Price is a Welsh professional boxer, former amateur boxer and former kickboxer and footballer. She has held the WBA, IBO, and Ring female welterweight World titles since 11 May 2024. She was the first-ever female British professional boxing champion having won the welterweight title on 6 May 2023 and holding it until vacating the belt when she became World champion. While representing Wales in the amateur sport she won a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, becoming the first Welsh woman to win a Commonwealth Games boxing medal. Four years later she surpassed this achievement by winning gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, followed by a gold at the 2019 World Championships. While representing Great Britain, she won gold medals at the 2019 European Games and 2020 Summer Olympics.

Ryan Burnett is an Irish former professional boxer who competed from 2013 to 2019. He was a unified bantamweight world champion, having held the WBA (Unified) and IBF titles between 2017 and 2018. At regional level he held the British bantamweight title from 2015 to 2017. As an amateur, he represented Ireland at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics and won a gold medal in the light-flyweight division.

Shane McGuigan is a British and Irish boxing coach. His gym is based in South West London.

Chantelle Cameron is an English professional boxer. She is a former world champion in two weight classes, including the former undisputed light-welterweight champion, having held the WBC title between 2020 and 2023; the IBF and Ring magazine titles between 2021 and 2023 ; and the WBA and WBO titles between November 2022 and 2023. She previously held the IBO female lightweight title from 2017 to 2019 and light-welterweight title from 2022 to 2023.
