Gigafactory Mexico (also known as Gigafactory 6) is a proposed manufacturing plant for Tesla, Inc. to be constructed near Monterrey, Mexico, [2] with new vehicle production expected as early as 2026. [3]
Tesla will build the gigafactory near Monterrey. The factory will be an approximately US$10 billion investment by Tesla and will employ thousands of workers when fully operational, as well as employ many thousands of workers during construction. [4] [5] Including Tesla and its suppliers, the plant represents a US$15 billion investment between 2023 and 2025. [6] Production is expected to start no earlier than 2026. [3] [7]
The facility was officially announced by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on 28 February 2023. [2] The following day at Tesla Investor Day, Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed the facility. [8] The factory was placed in Mexico in an effort to keep the cost of the vehicle low, and Tesla has encouraged suppliers to open facilities nearby. [9]
Samuel García, governor of Mexico's Nuevo León state, announced in July 2023 that the permits for the factory were nearly ready to be issued and said he expected construction would soon begin. [10] Tesla expected then that the facility would take 12 to 15 months to construct, [11] and had told suppliers to expect the plant to open in the first quarter of 2025. [9] By August 2023, preparation work had only just begun at the site to build an access road onto the property from the highway. [12] Tesla received environmental impact permits for the project in September 2023, with a requirement that construction be completed in 26 months (November 2025). [1] [13] By the end of October 2023, the government of Nuevo León said that Tesla had received all necessary permits to begin construction of the factory. [14]
In September 2023, multiple Tesla suppliers indicated that production was not expected to start until 2026 or 2027, and therefore some suppliers were delaying their own plans to build new facilities in Mexico to support the supply line for Tesla in Nuevo Leon. [3]
Tesla requested in October that the Nuevo Leon state government begin building electric, water, road and rail infrastructure to serve the Gigafactory, [15] although Tesla stated in October that they are slowing down their plans for the factory due to global concerns about the macroeconomy. [16]

The Tesla Fremont Factory is an automobile manufacturing plant in Fremont, California, United States, operated by Tesla, Inc. The factory originally opened as General Motors' Fremont Assembly in 1962, and then was operated by New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI), a joint venture of GM and Toyota from 1984. The joint venture ended when GM entered bankruptcy in 2009. In 2010, Toyota agreed to sell the plant to Tesla at a significant discount. The plant is the only production site for the Model S and Model X and also produces the Model 3, and Model Y.
Gigafactory Nevada is a lithium-ion battery and electric vehicle component factory in Storey County, Nevada, United States. The facility, located east of Reno, is owned and operated by Tesla, Inc. The factory supplies battery packs and drivetrain components for the company's electric vehicles, produces the Tesla Powerwall home energy storage device, and assembles the Tesla Semi. It is the largest and the first Tesla Gigafactory in the world. If fully built out, the building will have the largest footprint in the world.

Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg is a manufacturing plant for Tesla, Inc. in the municipality of Grünheide (Mark) in the Brandenburg state of Germany. The campus is located 35 kilometres (20 mi) south-east of central Berlin and some 8 kilometres (5 mi) southeast of the Berlin state boundary at Erkner and Rahnsdorf. Proximity to Berlin Brandenburg Airport was explicitly cited as a factor in choosing the site. It is Tesla's first manufacturing location in Europe.
Gigafactory New York is factory leased by Tesla, Inc. in the Riverbend section of Buffalo, New York. The factory, owned by the State of New York, was built on brownfield land remediated from a former steel mill. Construction of the factory started in 2014 and was completed in 2017. It produces the Tesla Solar Roof and Tesla Superchargers. Additionally, Tesla employs data analysts for its Autopilot software at the site.
Gigafactory Shanghai is an automobile manufacturing plant in Shanghai, China, operated by Tesla, Inc. Construction of the plant began in January 2019, initial production started in October, and the first production vehicles rolled out of the factory in December 2019, less than one year after groundbreaking. The main plant currently manufactures the Model 3 and Model Y. As of July 2023, Tesla says the factory has the capacity to build over 750,000 vehicles per year and is the primary production site for Tesla vehicles exported to regions without a Gigafactory.
Same-sex marriage is legal in Nuevo León is legal in accordance with a ruling from the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation on 19 February 2019 that the state's ban on same-sex marriage violated the Constitution of Mexico. The ruling came into effect on 31 May 2019 upon publication in the Official Journal of the Federation. By statute, in Mexico, if any five rulings from the courts on a single issue result in the same outcome, legislatures are bound to change the law. In the case of Nuevo León, almost 20 individual amparos were decided with the same outcome, yet the state did not act. On 19 February 2019, the Supreme Court issued a definitive ruling in an action of unconstitutionality, declaring the state's same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional, void and unenforceable. Same-sex marriage was codified into law by the Nuevo León Congress on 14 June 2023.
The Giga Press program is a series of aluminium die casting machines manufactured for Tesla, initially by Idra Group in Italy. Idra presses were the largest high-pressure die casting machines in production as of 2020, with a clamping force of 55,000 to 61,000 kilonewtons. Each machine weighs 410–430 tonnes (900,000–950,000 lb).
Gigafactory Texas is an automotive manufacturing facility in Austin, Texas built by Tesla, Inc. Construction began in July 2020, limited production of Model Y began before the end of 2021, and initial deliveries of vehicles built at the factory took place at an opening party called “Cyber Rodeo” on April 7, 2022.

Britishvolt is a UK startup manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries. The company initially planned production of batteries for the automotive industry. It began construction of a gigafactory at Blyth in northeast England in 2021, but work was halted in August 2022 due to funding difficulties.
The Tesla next-generation vehicle is an electric car platform under development by Tesla. The next-generation vehicle will be the third mainstream platform for the company, and it is expected that production volumes will greatly surpass those of the Model 3/Y platform. Although the vehicle has not been given an official name, the moniker Model 2 has been used to refer to the vehicle in the media. The car will be manufactured at Gigafactory Texas, Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, and the planned Gigafactory Mexico.
