Girdner is an unincorporated community in Douglas County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. [1] Girdner is located in central Douglas County, southeast of Ava, on Missouri Route P and the north side of Rippee Creek, a tributary of Bryant Creek. [2]

History

A post office called Girdner was established in 1885, and remained in operation until 1942. [3] The community has the name of "Doc" Girdner, a pioneer citizen. [4]

Smallett is an unincorporated community in southern Douglas County, Missouri, United States. It is located approximately nine miles south of Ava and is located on Missouri Supplemental Route A. It previously had its own post office from 1888-1967 with ZIP code 65750, but mail is now served by the post office in Ava. Some say Smallett was named for its first postmaster, James Small, while others believe the name honors another early settler.

Bryant is located adjacent to Bryant Creek just north of the Mill Hollow confluence with Bryant Creek and the Missouri Highway 5 bridge over Bryant Creek. The old store known as Midway was located one mile downstream at the old Bryant bridge along old Highway 5 at 37°01′46″N92°35′43″W.

The Rippee townsite was located on the northwest side of the Bryant Creek floodplain, due east of the confluence of Rippee Creek, which joins the Bryant from the west. The site lies at an elevation of 784 ft (239 m) and approximately 1.25 mi (2.01 km) south of the Missouri Route 14 bridge over the Bryant. The location is currently within the Rippee State Wildlife Management Area overseen by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Rippee Creek is a stream in southern Douglas County, Missouri. The stream starts in a hillside valley just east of Squires at an elevation just above 1200 feet and flows eastward past the Girdner community on Missouri Route P and on to its confluence with Bryant Creek at an elevation of 781 feet within the Rippee State Wildlife Management Area.
