Glassnote Records (also known as Glassnote Entertainment Group LLC) is a record label that was launched by American music executive Daniel Glass in 2007. The label primarily has a lineup of indie rock and alternative rock artists, most notably Mumford & Sons and Phoenix. [1] The label has also released music from popular artists in other genres, such as Chvrches, Childish Gambino and Secondhand Serenade. The label is distributed by The Orchard as of 2022. [2]

History

In 2009, the label released French indie rock band Phoenix's fourth album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix , which was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 2010. [3] Phoenix went on to release Bankrupt! which won the 2014 Victoires de la Musique Rock Album of the Year. [4] The band also released Ti Amo in 2017 and Alpha Zulu in 2022.

In February 2011, Mumford & Sons' Sigh No More became the label's highest charting album, peaking at #2. That same month, Mumford & Sons' single "The Cave" became the label's second Top 40 chart placement on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #27 (the first being "Fall for You" by Secondhand Serenade in 2008). The September 2012 release of the band's second album, Babel , gave the label its first ever #1 album on the Billboard 200 and the label's first album to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Childish Gambino, the music project of actor and comedian Donald Glover, [5] signed with Glassnote Records in September 2011. Shortly after on November 15, 2011, [6] the label released its first hip hop album, Camp . On December 10, 2013, the label released his second studio album Because the Internet . On December 2, 2016, the label released his third studio album, Awaken, My Love! . The album received critical acclaim including being one of Clash (magazine)'s album of the year [7] and became certified Platinum on September 27, 2018. [8]

On February 13, 2014, it was revealed that Glassnote had signed a global distribution agreement with Universal Music Group, [9] excluding Australia/New Zealand (Liberator), and South Africa (Just Music). [10] The label was previously distributed by RED Distribution [11] in the US.

In 2020, Silvana Estrada became the first Latin American artist to sign with Glassnote Records. [12] In 2022, she released her first solo album, Marchita which received critical acclaim. [13] Estrada won the 2022 Latin Grammy Award for Best New Artist with Angela Alvarez at the 23rd Annual Latin Grammy Awards [14]

In 2021, Glassnote announced the creation of Connection Music Publishing to be led by Jackie Post. [15]

Awards

In the April 28, 2011, issue of Rolling Stone, Glassnote was named Best Indie Label. [16]

Two albums released by the label have been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales of at least one million units: Sigh No More and Babel , both by Mumford & Sons. [17] Sigh No More, which has been certified triple-platinum for sales of three million copies, is the label's highest selling record. [17]

Four other albums have been certified gold for sales of 500,000 units: Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix by Phoenix, Wilder Mind by Mumford & Sons and Because the Internet and "Awaken, My Love!" , both by Childish Gambino. [17]

In 2011 Rolling Stone magazine named Glassnote "Best Indie Label." In 2013 and 2014, Glassnote won the A2IM Libera award for Best Label of the Year. In December, 2015, Glass was named a CHEVALIER DE L'ORDRE DES ARTS ET DES LETTRES by the French Minister of Culture.

Holly is the debut album from Canadian singer-songwriter Justin Nozuka. The album was named after his mother Holly. It was first released on March 19, 2007 in the United Kingdom and April 3, 2007 in Canada. It was then released in the United States on April 15, 2008 by Glassnote Records, peaking at numbers six and 30 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers and Independent Albums charts respectively. To promote the album, Nozuka toured across North America with appearances at talk shows.

Because the Internet is the second studio album by American recording artist Donald Glover, under the stage name Childish Gambino. It was released on December 10, 2013, by Glassnote Records. The recording process began in 2012 and ended in October 2013. Recording primarily took place at a mansion owned by basketball player Chris Bosh, which Gambino rented. The album features guest appearances from Chance the Rapper, Jhené Aiko, and Azealia Banks, with production primarily handled by Gambino himself, Stefan Ponce, and Ludwig Göransson, among others.

STN MTN / Kauai is the combined release of the seventh mixtape and second extended play (EP) by American recording artist Childish Gambino. The STN MTN mixtape was released on October 2, 2014 as a free download from DatPiff, while the Kauai EP was made available the following day through online music stores by Glassnote Records. They are each considered dual sides of a concept album that are unified by a cohesive story line, and come ten months after Glover's second studio album, Because the Internet.

"Awaken, My Love!" is the third studio album by American recording artist Donald Glover, under his stage name Childish Gambino. It was released by Glassnote Records on December 2, 2016. Consisting of tracks being sung rather than rapped, its fusion of psychedelic soul, funk and R&B influences was considered a bold departure from the predominantly hip hop style of his prior work. The album was produced by Glover and his longtime collaborator, Ludwig Göransson.

"Terrified" is a song by American rapper and singer Childish Gambino from his third studio album "Awaken, My Love!". It was sent to urban contemporary radio as the album's third single on September 19, 2017.

<i>3.15.20</i> 2020 studio album by Childish Gambino

3.15.20 is the fourth studio album by American recording artist Donald Glover, under his stage name Childish Gambino. It was initially uploaded to the website donaldgloverpresents.com on March 15, 2020, before being taken down 12 hours later. After a countdown, it was released to streaming and download services under the title 3.15.20 on March 22. It is therefore interchangeably referred to as both 3.15.20 and Donald Glover Presents. The album features guest appearances from Ariana Grande, Kadhja Bonet, 21 Savage and Ink. Glover produced the album with a range of collaborators including DJ Dahi, longtime producer Ludwig Göransson, Chukwudi Hodge, Kurtis McKenzie and James Francies, Jr.

The album was released January 21, 2022, as her debut release with Glassnote Records. The album was recorded in Mexico City over five days in 2019 with producer Gustavo Guerrero.
