The Godha are Jain tribal caste people found in the state of Gujarat in India having roots in Rajasthan. They are also known as Gondha and Gonda. The Godha sometimes (depending on region) use Dengar as a community surname. [1]

History and origin

The Godha are descended from a group of tribal Gondi people that migrated from Madhya Pradesh some five centuries ago. They are mainly distributed in Surat, Valsad and Rajasthan.

Present circumstances

The Godha practice community endogamy. They have no system of clans, or clan hierarchy. They are present in almost every sector now. Many are now involved in a number of occupations such tailoring, and the diamond cutting industry, among others.

Pinjara

The Pinjara are a community found in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Rajasthan in India. The terms Pinjara, Mansoori, and Dhunia are used interchangebly in some regions of India whereas in other regions they are separate communities. They are also known as Mansoori, especially in Gujarat, where the name Pinjara is no longer used. The Pinjara is the traditional cotton carder of Central India, just like the are the traditional cotton carders of North India.This community came from Persia and Afghanistan for business purpose of cotton farming and industries.

Chhipa

The Chhipa are a community or clan of people with ancestral roots tracing back to India. They are found in the state of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh of India. Chhipa are also found in Pakistan.

Tadvi Bhil

The Tadvi Bhil is an tribal community found in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in India. They are from the larger Bhil ethnic group, and are a clan of it. They use the surname Tadvi or sometimes the name of their Kul or Gan; the Dhankas of Gujarat and Maharashtra use Tadvi or Tetariya.

The Chunara are an ethnic group found in the state of Gujarat in India. A small number are also found in the port city of Karachi in Pakistan. There are now two communities of Chunara, one Hindu and the other Muslim.
