Grace Fong, D.M.A., is the American Director of Keyboard Studies at Chapman University Conservatory of Music and has an active solo and chamber music career. [1] She also performs as part of the Selvaggi Trio. [2]

Fong grew up in Bakersfield, California. Her parents are immigrants from Taiwan. [3] During the course of her undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California, Fong completed a double major and minor; she was awarded the Renaissance Scholar Prize, and was named "The USC Thornton School of Music Keyboard Department’s — Most Outstanding Student B.M." Fong is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music where she studied with Sergei Babayan.

Fong placed 6th in the 2006 Leeds International Piano Competition [4] in the United Kingdom, 2nd in the 2007 Bosendorfer International Piano Competition, [5] shared 3rd prize with Michael Mizrahi at the 2006 San Antonio International Piano Competition, [6] and was the Baroque Prize recipient at the 2005 Cleveland International Piano Competition. [7]

Fong was named a finalist of the 2008-2009 Classical Fellowship Awards of the American Pianists Association, and invited to perform a series of concerts by the APA. [8] She later was the 2002 Gold Medalist for the Wideman International Piano Competition. [9] Other prizes include the winner of the 2002 Music Academy of the West Concerto Competition, the winner of the 2002 Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition, 1st Prize in the 2000 Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, and 1st Prize in the 2000 Edith Knox Performance Competition. The Leeds International Piano Competition, informally known as The Leeds and formerly the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition, takes place every three years in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It was founded in 1961 by Marion, Countess of Harewood, Dame Fanny Waterman, and Roslyn Lyons, with the first competition being held in 1963. Waterman was the chair and artistic director up to the 2015 competition when Paul Lewis and Adam Gatehouse became Co-Artistic Directors. The first round of the competition takes place internationally and in 2021 went 'virtual' when 63 pianists were recorded in 17 international locations and the Jury deliberated online, in order to circumvent the various impacts of Covid. The 2nd round, semi-finals and finals take place in the Great Hall of the University of Leeds and in Leeds Town Hall and in 2018 & 2021 were streamed to a large global audience through medici.tv, achieving over 4.7 million views and listens through multiple channels and platforms, including the BBC, Amadeus.tv (China), Classic FM and Mezzo.tv.
