N.E.R.D. is an American hip hop and rock band, formed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in 1999. The Neptunes were signed by Teddy Riley to Virgin. After producing songs for several artists throughout the late 1990s, the duo formed the band with Shay Haley as a side project of The Neptunes in 1999. N.E.R.D.'s debut album, In Search Of..., sold 603,000 copies in the United States and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It was also awarded the second annual Shortlist Music Prize. The band's second album, Fly or Die, sold 412,000 copies in the United States, but shipped at least 500,000 units, certifying it Gold.

EPMD is an American hip hop duo from Brentwood, New York. The duo's name is a concatenation of the members' names "E" and "PMD" or an acronym for "Erick and Parrish Making Dollars", referring to its members: emcees Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith. During an interview on college radio station WHOV in 1987, Parrish Smith stated that the name evolved from the original: "We were originally known as "EEPMD", but chose to go with EPMD because it was easier to say." He also stated that they dropped the two "E's" because N.W.A.'s Eric Wright was already using "Eazy-E" as his stage name. The group has been active for 36 years.

Modey Lemon is an American garage rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The group formed in Pittsburgh's South Oakland neighborhood in 1999 as an informal side project of Dean Swagger, a rock trio that had spent the previous year mainly performing in basements to college party crowds. The original lineup consisted of guitarist Phil Boyd and drummer Paul Quattrone, then nominally students at the University of Pittsburgh. The group made its first appearances at the Halloween weekend in 1999 and played a live set on WPTS 92.1 FM, the University of Pittsburgh college radio station, segments of which later turned up on the group's demo album, House on the Hill.

Although no singles were released, three songs later appeared on the compilation album Five Years Of Fireworks: "Oh My God You're Weird!", "Matt And Nate", and "Murderfuck". This album is one Grand Buffet's most popular releases.
Pittsburgh Hearts is the third and last in the Trilogy of Terror, a series of three EPs by Pittsburgh alternative hip hop duo, Grand Buffet. It's the first release on which they're credited by their real names. On previous releases, they had used a variety of stage names. The credits of back of the album's artwork, Jarrod announces that he has a daughter named Sugar Marie Weeks. The final track "Thank You. Goodbye. We'll Die." is an outro. It is where they discuss the album and diss various business. They manage to use the word "fuck" 47 times in a little under 3 minutes. This was first album in the trilogy, to not have a hidden track. It is also their last album to have a parental advisory label on the front cover.
