Gregory Clarke Holmes (born 22 September 1993) is a Welsh cricketer. He is right hand batsman and right arm medium bowler. Holmes was born in Neath,Glamorgan,Wales and is son of Geoff Holmes,a former first-class cricketer and Cricket Board of Wales director. [1] [2] Holmes was educated at Radyr Comprehensive School and attended Cardiff Metropolitan University. [3]
Holmes made his debut for Wales in the 2012 Minor Counties Championship against Cheshire. Holmes played Minor counties cricket for Wales from 2012 to 2017,which included 18 Minor Counties Championship matches, [4] 13 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches [5] and 7 Minor Counties T20 matches. [6] Holmes also played the Second XI competitions for Glamorgan from 2011 to 2016,including 13 Second XI Championship matches, [7] 4 Second XI Trophy matches, [8] and 19 Second XI T20 matches, [9] Holmes played two first-class matches for Cardiff MCCU in 2016 against Hampshire and Glamorgan with both matches ending in a draw. The National Counties,known as the Minor Counties before 2020,are the cricketing counties of England and Wales that do not have first-class status. The game is administered by the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA),which comes under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). There are currently twenty teams in National Counties cricket:nineteen representing historic counties of England,plus the Wales National County Cricket Club.
Glamorgan County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Glamorgan. Founded in 1888,Glamorgan held minor status at first and was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship before the First World War. William Henry Brain was an English first-class cricketer and footballer:a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper who played for Gloucestershire,Oxford University and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in the early 1890s;as well as keeping goal for Headington United. Michael Burns is an English first-class list cricket umpire and former first-class cricketer who played county cricket for Warwickshire and Somerset in a first-class career which spanned from 1992 until 2005. He also played Minor Counties cricket for Cumberland and Cornwall. An adaptable cricketer,he appeared for Cumberland and Warwickshire as a wicket-keeper,but when he moved to Somerset he developed into an aggressive batsman who bowled at medium-pace when needed.
