Hedda Lettuce is the stage name of Steven Polito, an American drag queen, comedian and singer who lives and works in New York City. [1] [2] Polito debuted his character Hedda Lettuce in 1991 on the Manhattan Cable TV show The Brenda and Glennda Show. Lettuce's appearances include MTV, Comedy Central, The People's Court and a cameo on Sex and the City as Samantha's ex-beau turned Bingo Drag impersonator. Lettuce's film appearances include To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar ; Cruise Control, The Look, Red Lipstick, and Musical Chairs .
Hedda Lettuce was born 1968 as Steven Polito in New York City and raised on Long Island. He went to Commack North High School. [3] Polito earned a bachelor's degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology. His first performance in drag was with a friend at Sheridan Square to raise money for Queer Nation. Polito later became an assistant to Lypsinka. [4]

Lettuce also was a model and client of Stephen "Suede" Baum during a challenge in the fifth season of Project Runway . While on the show, she had several disagreements with Suede, especially over his not designing gloves for her, which caused her to call him "lazy". This led to designer Jerell Scott using the name "Hedda Lettuce" as a term for a model that is hard to work with.
Lettuce appeared on the April 27, 2009, show of The Tyra Banks Show . The guests on the show took part in a social experiment called Gay Kingdom. They voted on roles for each member of the kingdom ranging from king and queen to concubine and pauper; Lettuce was labeled as the jester of the kingdom.
Lettuce appeared on an episode of Ugly Betty entitled "Chica and the Man" in which Wilhelmina Slater discovered she had a drag impersonator named Wilhediva Hater. Although she had little dialogue, Hedda can be seen in the majority of the scenes that take place in the drag bar.
In 2010, Lettuce was featured in the web series Queens of Drag: NYC by gay.com in 2010. The series featured fellow New York drag queens Bianca Del Rio, Dallas DuBois, Lady Bunny, Mimi Imfurst, Peppermint, and Sherry Vine.
Lettuce provides commentary on the special features of the 2021 blu-ray edition of the 1981 film Mommie Dearest based on the book by Joan Crawford's daughter, Christina.

A drag queen is a person, usually male, who uses drag clothing and makeup to imitate and often exaggerate female gender signifiers and gender roles for entertainment purposes. Historically, drag queens have usually been gay men, and have been a part of gay culture.
Lady Bunny, originally known as "Bunny Hickory Dickory Dock", is an American drag queen, nightclub DJ, actor, comedian, and event organizer. She is the founder of the annual Wigstock event, as well as an occasional television and radio personality. She has released disco singles such as "Shame, Shame, Shame!" and "The Pussycat Song", and has hosted two one-woman comedy shows, 'That Ain't No Lady!' and 'Clowns Syndrome'.

Michael R. Steck, better known by the stage name Pandora Boxx, is an American drag queen, comedian, and reality television personality from Rochester, New York. Boxx competed in the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race, placing fifth and winning Miss Congeniality, and subsequently returned for the first and sixth seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars. Boxx also appeared in all three seasons of the Drag Race spin-off series RuPaul's Drag U.
James William Ross IV is an American drag queen and reality television personality who performed under the stage name Tyra Sanchez. A frequent drag impersonator of pop star Beyoncé, Ross is best known as the winner of the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race, where he won $25,000. As of March 2020, Ross retired from his drag character Tyra Sanchez after making a public post on Instagram. Two years later, on September 14, 2022, Ross announced his return to drag, once again under the name King Tyra, exclusively on his OnlyFans. In August 2023, Ross dissolved all of his subscription content for King Tyra, stating that his drag could exclusively be seen on Instagram.
Mimi Imfurst, the stage name of Braden Stewart Chapman, is an American drag performer. She appeared on the third season of RuPaul's Drag Race and RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars and was a founding member of the girl group Xelle. In 2017, he became the first U.S. drag queen to perform in Cuba, lip-syncing to Madonna's "Express Yourself" with a group of local dancers.

Peppermint, or Miss Peppermint, is an American actress, singer, songwriter, television personality, drag queen, and activist. She is best known from the nightlife scene and, in 2017, as the runner-up on the ninth season of RuPaul's Drag Race. In 2018, Peppermint made her debut in The Go-Go's-inspired musical Head Over Heels as Pythio, becoming Broadway's first out trans woman to originate a lead role.
Charlie Hides is a British-American drag queen, impersonator, actor, and comedian. Hides is known for his YouTube channel, and his participation in the ninth season of RuPaul's Drag Race. Following live performances in London clubs, Hides started a YouTube channel in March 2011. He has produced hundreds of videos satirizing popular culture, and impersonating celebrities such as Cher, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Lana Del Rey.
Kristian Seeber, known professionally as Tina Burner, is an American drag performer most known for appearing in Shade: Queens of NYC and on the thirteenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race. She was a part of a boy band named 5th Ring.
Barracuda Lounge, or simply Barracuda, is a gay bar in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. Opened in 1995, the bar is known for its nightly drag shows. It is a sister establishment to Industry, a nightclub, and Elmo, a restaurant. Barracuda is home to "Star Search", the longest-running bar show in New York City, which began in the early 1990s and may have served as an inspiration for RuPaul's Drag Race. In the 1990s and 2000s, Barracuda was a popular celebrity hangout, and it was frequently the site of promotional events for new music and Broadway plays. While closed for much of 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the venue underwent a major renovation. It reopened in June 2021. Critics generally praise Barracuda for its intimate, relaxed and entertainment-focused atmosphere, which was unusual at the time of its creation, and some credit this with revolutionizing the concept of gay bars.
