Hendrik Jan "Henk Jan" Ormel (born 15 December 1955) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA).
He was an MP from 23 May 2002 to 19 September 2012,focusing on matters of foreign policy,the European Union,biotechnology and animal welfare. Henk Jan Ormel also sat on the Executive Committee of AWEPA. [1] Ormel began as chief veterinary officer at FAO on September 20,2012. He was coordinator of anti-microbial resistance (AMR). [2]
Following the stepping down of Esther de Lange as a Member of the European Parliament,Ormel was sworn in as her successor on 27 February 2024. He is part of the European People's Party Group. [3]
The People's Party for Freedom and Democracy is a conservative-liberal political party in the Netherlands. The VVD,whose forerunner was the Freedom Party,is a party of the centre-right,which promotes private enterprise and economic liberalism.

In July 2014 she was elected as Vice President of the EPP Group in the European Parliament and in June 2018 as Vice President of the EPP Party. De Lange stepped down as MEP in February 2024.
