Historicon is the largest gaming convention in North America devoted to solely historical miniature wargaming. [1] It is sponsored by the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society, a nonprofit guiding organization. [2] The Wall Street Journal has described Historicon as the "mother of all wargaming conventions." [3]

Typically, Historicon is a four-day convention held in July each year since 1994. [2] Thousands of miniature gamers and military history enthusiasts gather to play in hundreds of tabletop games, tournaments, and demonstrations. [2] The convention is accompanied by a flea market of used gaming items and accessories, a large dealer hall offering new merchandise, [4] a series of seminars and training sessions, painting competitions, and similar events. The majority of events are history-related, with the remainder being fantasy, science fiction, steampunk, or horror miniature games. [4]

Each year, Historicon has a different theme and focal point (such as the American Civil War or World War II), and many games and supporting events are geared around the theme. Awards are presented to the Best Theme Event, as well as best games in specific time slots and other honors for particularly popular or impressive games. [5]

Historicon was held in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at the Lancaster Host Resort, a hotel located on U.S. Route 30 in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish country for many years. [5]

For many years it was held in historic Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In 2012 it moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia at the Fredericksburg Expo Center, a convention center a mile from Interstate 95, the main highway on the East Coast of the United States. Fredericksburg is rich in history, with the battlefields of Chancellorsville, Fredericksburg, the Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House commemorated nearby at the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park. The National Museum of the Marine Corps is also within easy driving distance. In 2018 Historicon moved back to Lancaster, Pennsylvania and was held at its old home the Lancaster Host Resort (now known as the Wyndham Lancaster Resort and Convention Center). In 2019 Historicon was held at its new home the Lancaster County Convention Center.

In 2020, HMGS canceled all of its conventions, including Historicon, due to Covid-19. In 2021, HMGS was again unable to hold Historicon during the usual mid-July timeframe; however, instead of canceling again, they held it in mid-November, replacing the Fall In! convention that usually occurs at that time. [6] The 2022 edition of the event was held at the Lancaster County Convention Center. [7]

Wargame Strategy game that realistically simulates war

A wargame is a strategy game in which two or more players command opposing armed forces in a realistic simulation of an armed conflict. It features traditional pen-and-paper, board, and card games, including role-playing games, miniatures wargames, live action role-playing games, collectible card games, and strategy games. Gen Con also features computer games. Attendees engage in a variety of tournament and interactive game sessions. In 2019, Gen Con had nearly 70,000 unique attendees.

Zenkaikon is a multi-genre convention held during spring at the Lancaster County Convention Center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The convention was formerly based around King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Zenkaikon's name is a portmanteau of Zentrancon and Kosaikon, created when they merged in 2006. The convention has an all-volunteer staff.

AVCon, abbreviated from Adelaide's Anime and Video Games Festival, is an Australian anime and video games festival held in Adelaide, South Australia and organised by the registered charity Team AVCon Inc. The festival is traditionally held annually in July, spanning three days, first at the University of Adelaide, then at the Adelaide Convention Centre until 2019. The festival was not held between 2020 and 2022 because of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Team AVCon issued a statement on their social media and official website stating that the AVCon festival will not be going ahead in 2022 as a large event. Instead, Team AVCon will run mini-events and focus on reconnecting with the regional and metropolitan communities.

Carnage Gaming Convention

Carnage is a multi-genre table-top gaming convention based in the Upper Valley of Vermont / New Hampshire. It typically covers all genres of tabletop gaming, like board games, role-playing games, CCGs, LARPs and historical and fantasy miniatures.

Tolkienmoot began under the name of Merpcon in 2005. Always a convention focused on J.R.R. Tolkien and gaming in Middle-earth, its name was changed in 2009 as the venue expanded. The convention was founded by Hawke Robinson and others.

UK Games Expo UK annual game convention

UK Games Expo (UKGE) is tabletop-game convention and trade fair held annually at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.

Modiphius Entertainment is an RPG and tabletop game publisher based in Fulham, London. Modiphius was founded in 2012 by husband-wife team Rita and Chris Birch to publish their first game Achtung! Cthulhu. The company have since published a number of product lines based on independent licenses and established brands.
