House on the Rock is an Evangelical Christian Church headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria.

It is well known for its annual musical concert, The Experience (World's Largest Gospel Concert), which features both local and international gospel musicians. [1]

History

The church was initially founded by Paul Adefarasin in 1994, from his mother's living room in Lagos. It has expanded to over 50 branches worldwide, mostly in Nigeria, with several provinces in South Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. [2] [3] [4] [5] Adefarasin has stated that he is inspired by US preacher T. D. Jakes. [6]

The Rock Cathedral

The Rock Cathedral (also known as the Millennium Temple) is located in Ikate-Elegushi, Lekki, Lagos Lagos and houses the global headquarters of House On The Rock and The Rock Foundation. It accommodates religious and social functions, including worship, education, healthcare, community development, reformation training, recreation and social rehabilitation. Adefarasin has been quoted saying that the idea behind the cathedral is to provide a "one-stop centre for Christians looking for materials and goods of every kind." [7] [8]

The official commissioning of The Rock Cathedral took place on 20 April 2013, with prominent personalities in attendance, including Goodluck Jonathan and Tony Blair. [9]

The Rock Foundation

The Rock Foundation is a non-profit charity organisation that provides health care, education, social reformation, and relief materials to those in need. The foundation operates primarily in Nigeria and the West Africa region. [10] [11] [12] Adefarasin serves as the Founder and President of the foundation. [13] His wife, Ifeanyi Adefarasin, is the co-founder of The House On The Rock and is a Pastor in the church. [14] [15]

Project Spread

The Rock Foundation's Project Spread is a year-end empowerment program that distributes food, medicine, and other necessities to inhabitants in disadvantaged regions. [16] [17] [18]

Adefarasin led a team of around 20,000 people to the Lagos Island, Ikate-Elegushi, Ebute-Meta, and Bariga communities in December 2017 to launch the year's campaign. Lagos Island was chosen as Adefarasin was born in that community. [19] [20]

The Experience

The Experience is an annual free musical concert organised by the church and involving various renowned gospel musicians from Nigeria and around the world. The event started in 2006 and is hosted each year at the Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island. [21] [22]

Gospel musicians such as Travis Greene, [23] [24] Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Don Moen, Frank Edwards, Nathaniel Bassey, and Chioma Jesus have previously headlined the concert. [25]

He is also the Convener/Host of The Experience.

The Admiralty Circle plaza is located in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State in Nigeria. It was established to collect tolls along the 49 km road expansion on Lekki–Eti-Osa Expressway. It is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement between Lagos State's government and Messrs Ikeja Concession Company Limited LCC. The activity commenced at the plaza on 5 January 2011.

The Experience is an annual, free gospel music concert held at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos Island, Nigeria. Begun and hosted by House on the Rock lead pastor Paul Adefarasin in 2006, the first concert had an attendance of 70,000 people.

The album features collaborations with Darlene Zschech, Leeland, Maranda Curtis, Micah Stampley, Jekalyn Carr, Nathaniel Bassey, Da'Dra Greathouse, Panam Percy Paul; making it the first Gospel album from Africa to feature a high assemblage of American gospel singers, and also the first time Sinach has collaborated with each of these artists, except Leeland who featured on a version of her song, "Way Maker", alongside Maverick City and Mandisa at the Dove Award Way maker performance.

Salau Aliu Olayiwola who is popularly called by his stage name Testimony Jaga was born on the 9th of March 1987, is a Nigerian Fuji, afro-pop recording and performing gospel artist, who started his gospel musical career from loveworld records under Pastor Chris Oyakhilome. Testimony Jaga gospel career was preceded by the release of the single: "Igara" which won him the "Artist of the Year" awards at The LIMA Awards 2019. His songs are mostly composed in English and Yoruba.

Emmanuel Aniefiok Iren well known as Emmanuel Iren is a Nigerian preacher and gospel songwriter. He is the Founder of Celebration Church International (CCI), headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria. In 2018, he debuted his first album Kerygma and in 2022, he released his second album Apostolos:Voice of Transition.
