Hypsopsetta macrocephala is a flatfish of the family Pleuronectidae. It is a demersal fish that lives on bottoms in the tropical waters of the eastern Pacific and the Gulf of California. [1]

C. macrocephala has a secreted bioluminescence that is thought to be coelenterazine based. The luciferase is highly unstable, being unable to survive a single freeze-thaw, and is rapidly inactivated at ice-cold temperatures.
