Idols East Africa was a singing competition, serving as the second season of the pan-African franchise of the Idol series after Idols West Africa. It premiered on April 6, 2008, and ended on July 27, 2008. [1]
Participating countries are located on the eastern and southern parts of Africa such as Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Audition venues will be held in each of these countries. The competition is also open to citizens of Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Réunion, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, and Swaziland, but would have to meet the requirements before auditioning in one of the seven audition venues. Voting is done by ranking the contestants per country and finding the average rank. This is to prevent countries with larger voting power from giving the contestants from their country an unfair advantage.

Brian Dunkleman quit after the first season, and Ryan Seacrest therefore became the lone host beginning with the second season.

The sixth season of American Idol premiered on the Fox Broadcasting Company as a two-night, four-hour premiere special on January 16 and 17, and ran until May 23, 2007. A new record of 74 million votes were cast in the finale round, and a new record of 609 million votes were cast in the entire season. Jordin Sparks won the competition, while Blake Lewis was the runner-up.

Farley Flex, Jake Gold, Sass Jordan and Zack Werner all returned as judges. This season saw a number of major and minor show format changes in an effort to keep the franchise fresh and innovative. The final episode of the season, in which the Canadian Idol was crowned, aired on September 10, 2008. The winner of the sixth season was Theo Tams. The sixth season became the final season of Canadian Idol following its cancellation in 2009.
