If Orange Was a Place is the second (and first major label) extended play by Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer Tems. [2] [1] It was produced primarily by GuiltyBeatz, along with production from Jonah Christian, and was released on 15 September 2021 by Since '93 and RCA. [3] It features a single guest appearance from American singer Brent Faiyaz. [4]

Background and release

On 6 September 2021, Tems announced via her Twitter handle that her second EP was set to be released the next week. [5] A week later Tems released the track listing, accompanied by a trailer for the EP revealing Brent Faiyaz as the only guest artist and Ghanaian producer GuiltyBeatz as the EP's primary producer, with additional production from Jonah Christian. [5]

If Orange Was a Place was released on 15 September 2021 by RCA/Since '93, revealing that Tems had signed a recording deal with the label. [6] [3]

The EP reviewed positive reviews from critics. A review from Pitchfork stated that "If Orange Was a Place takes on a different texture and mood. If there's any element still resonant, it's Tems' unrestricted expression." [1] Rolling Stone praised the EP while also stating that it "broadens Tems' budding discography across moods and tempos, uniting all her strengths in a multi-faceted display of self-actualization". [7] A mixed review from Pulse Nigeria wrote that "this isn't music to be judged harshly - if it can be judged at all. It's just music to be enjoyed and understood." [8]

He rose to prominence following his guest performance alongside Shy Glizzy on GoldLink's 2016 single "Crew." The song peaked at number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received sextuple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), as well as a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, known professionally as Ayra Starr, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. She began a fashion career at the age of 16 with Quove Model Management before deciding to pursue a career in music. After covering several songs by popular artists on Instagram, she posted her first original song on her page in December 2019. This brought her to the attention of record executive Don Jazzy, who signed her to his record label Mavin Records.

<i>For Broken Ears</i> 2020 EP by Tems

For Broken Ears is the debut extended play by Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer Tems. It was produced primarily by Tems, along with production from Spax, Omeiza and Tejiri Akpoghene, and was released on 25 September 2020 by Leading Vibes Limited. It spawned front several hits in 2022, including "Higher" which was sampled on Future's number one Billboard Hot 100 hit "Wait for U" and "Free Mind" which debuted on the chart, gaining Tems her first solo appearance.

"Damages" is a song by Nigerian singer and record producer Tems. It was released on 17 September 2020. Written by Tems and produced by Spax, the song is the only single from Tems's first EP For Broken Ears, which was released on 25 September 2020.

Wasteland is the second studio album by American R&B singer Brent Faiyaz. It was released on July 8, 2022, by Lost Kids, Venice Music and Stem Disintermedia. It was executive produced by Jonathan "Freeze" Wells. The production on the album was handled multiple producers including Jake One, DJ Dahi, The Neptunes and No I.D. among others. Born in the Wild is the upcoming debut studio album by Nigerian singer Tems. It is set for release in May 2024, via RCA Records. The album was preceded by the singles "Me & U" and "Not an Angel" which were released in 2023 respectively.
