Harold Ellis Prize

Since 2004, the journal has annually awarded the Harold Ellis Prize "in recognition of scientific papers judged to be outstanding". [2] Harold Ellis is emeritus professor of surgery at the University of London and currently a professor in the Department of Anatomy & Human Sciences at King's College London.

Harold Ellis CBE FRCS is an English retired surgeon. He was Emeritus Professor of Surgery in the University of London and most recently a professor in the Department of Anatomy & Human Sciences at the King's College London School of Medicine. He qualified as a doctor from the University of Oxford in July 1948, the same month the National Health Service began. From 1950 to 1951 he undertook national service as a captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps, afterwards continuing his training as a surgical registrar in London, Sheffield and Oxford before taking up a post as senior lecturer in the University of London. In 1962, he took up the foundation chair of surgery at the Westminster Hospital, a post which he held until his retirement from practice in 1989. After a stint teaching anatomy in the University of Cambridge, he took up his present position in 1993.

Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery, established in 1860 as Archiv für Klinische Chirurgie by founding editor Bernhard von Langenbeck, is the oldest medical journal of surgery in the world. It is the official journal of several European surgical societies: German Society of Surgery, German Society of General and Visceral Surgery, German Association of Endocrine Surgeons, European Society of Endocrine Surgeons, and the German, Austrian and Swiss Surgical Associations for Minimal Invasive Surgery. Steven D. Wexner is an American surgeon and physician. He is Director of the Ellen Leifer Shulman and Steven Shulman Digestive Disease Center at Cleveland Clinic Florida. Wexner has received numerous regional, national, and international research awards. Through his multiple academic appointments, Wexner personally trains 15-20 surgeons each year, and he educates thousands more around the world through conferences and lectures. He is a resource for his colleagues from around the world for referral of patients with challenging or complex problems. In 2020, he was elected Vice-Chair of the Board of Regents of the American College of Surgeons for a one year term. Since 1990. he has served as Symposium Director of the Cleveland Clinic Annual International Colorectal Disease Symposium. The Symposium was held in Fort Lauderdale or Boca Raton every year from 1990 to 2019. Since 2020, the Symposium has expanded to include host locations outside of the USA with interruptions during the pandemic years of 2021-2022.
