The Ireland cricket team toured the United Arab Emirates in February and March 2024 to play one Test match, three One Day International (ODI) matches and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches against Afghanistan. [1] [2] The Test was played in Abu Dhabi, [3] and the ODIs and T20Is were played in Sharjah. [4] The T20I series formed part of both teams' preparation for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament. [5] The venue for the Test was shifted from the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium to the Tolerance Oval, just a week before the match. [6]

Ireland won the Test match by six wickets. [7] This was Ireland's first ever Test win, at the eighth attempt. [8] Afghanistan won the ODI series 2–0, with the second match abandoned due to rain. [9] [10] Afghanistan won the T20I series 2-1. [11]

The Bangladesh men's national cricket team, popularly known as The Tigers, is administered by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). It is a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test, One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) status. It played its first Test match in November 2000 against India with a 9 wicket win in Dhaka, becoming the tenth Test-playing nation. It became an associate member of the ICC in 1977, and competed in six ICC Trophies but performed inconsistently until 1997, which marked the year of their first major victory, winning the 1997 ICC Trophy held in Malaysia. The Afghanistan men's national cricket team represents Afghanistan in international cricket. Cricket has been played in Afghanistan since the mid-19th century, but it was only in the early 21st century that the national team began to enjoy success. The Afghanistan Cricket Board was formed in 1995, becoming an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2001 and a member of the cricket confederation, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in 2003. After nearly a decade of playing international cricket, on 22 June 2017 full ICC membership was granted to Afghanistan. Alongside Ireland, this took the number of Test cricket playing nations to twelve. Afghanistan is the first country to achieve Full Member status after holding Affiliate Membership of the ICC. In view of the persistent conflict and insecurity in Afghanistan, following this status, the team moved to a new home ground in Dehradun, in India. The current home ground of the Afghanistan Men's Cricket team is the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE.

The 2014 Asia Cup was the twelfth edition of the Asia Cup cricket tournament. The tournament was held in Bangladesh from 25 February to 8 March 2014. Pakistan were the defending champions, having won the previous tournament. The tournament included the four Asian test-playing nations, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka; and ICC Asian Associate member Afghanistan. This was the first 50-over tournament in which Afghanistan took part. Ten league matches were played along with the final. The title sponsors of the tournament were Arise India and it was powered by Cycle Agarbathis. Sri Lanka Beat Pakistan in the final to become Asia Cup champions for the fifth time.

The Sri Lanka and Pakistan national cricket teams toured the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 11 December 2013 to 20 January 2014. The tour included three Tests, five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Twenty20 Internationals (T20I) between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Madagamagamage Dasun Shanaka is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer and former limited overs captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team. An all-rounder, Shanaka is a right-handed batter and a right-arm medium fast bowler.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Rashid Khan</span> Afghan cricketer

Rashid Khan Arman is an Afghan international cricketer and captain of the Afghanistan national team in the T20I format. In franchise leagues, he plays for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Adelaide Strikers in Australia's Big Bash League (BBL), Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Band-e-Amir Dragons in Afghanistan's Shpageeza Cricket League and MI New York in Major League Cricket (MLC). He bowls right-arm leg spin and bats right-handed.

The Afghanistan cricket team toured the United Arab Emirates to play Zimbabwe from 25 December 2015 to 10 January 2016. The tour consisted of five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) matches. All the matches took place at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium.

The Ireland cricket team toured India during March 2017 to play five One Day Internationals (ODIs), three Twenty20 International (T20Is) and an ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Afghanistan. All the matches were played at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground, Greater Noida, in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Afghanistan won the T20I series 3–0 and the ODI series 3–2. Afghanistan also won the ICC Intercontinental Cup match, by an innings and 172 runs.

Pathum Nissanka Silva is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for Sri Lanka in all three formats of the game. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in March 2021 and currently slotted as the permanent opening batsman. On 9 February 2024, Nissanka scored an ODI double hundred, becoming the first Sri Lankan to achieve the feat.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mujeeb Ur Rahman</span> Afghan cricketer

Mujeeb Ur Rahman Zadran is an Afghan cricketer, who plays for the Afghanistan national cricket team. Two months after his international debut, at the age of 16 years and 325 days, he became the youngest player to take a five-wicket haul in a One Day International. He was one of the eleven cricketers to play in Afghanistan's first Test match, against India, in June 2018. Afghanistan lost the one-sided Test within two days. Mujeeb scored 15 and 3 in the two innings, respectively, and got one wicket after conceding 75 runs. It was also Mujeeb's first-class cricket debut. His uncle, Noor Ali Zadran, is also an Afghan international cricketer.

The Ireland cricket team toured the United Arab Emirates in December 2017 to play three One Day Internationals (ODIs) against the Afghanistan cricket team. The matches were used as a warm-up for the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which took place in Zimbabwe in March 2018. Ireland won the series 2–1.

The Zimbabwe cricket team toured the United Arab Emirates to play the Afghanistan cricket team in February 2018 to play two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) and five One Day International (ODI) matches. Initial reports suggested that it would include Afghanistan's first Test match since being awarded Test status by the International Cricket Council in June 2017, but instead the tour consisted of just limited overs matches. An official from Zimbabwe Cricket said that both sides were still in talks to play a Test match, but that would be at some point after the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier.

The Afghanistan cricket team toured Ireland in August 2018 to play three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) matches against the Ireland cricket team. Afghanistan won the T20I series 2–0, after the third match was abandoned due to overnight rain and a wet outfield. Afghanistan won the ODI series 2–1.

The Ireland cricket team toured India in February and March 2019 to play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and a Test match against the Afghanistan cricket team. It was Ireland's first Test played overseas and the first Test match between the two sides. All of the fixtures took place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun. The ODI fixtures were part of Afghanistan's preparation for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In January 2019, the fixtures were brought forward by two days, to avoid clashing with the Indian Premier League.

The Afghanistan cricket team played the West Indies cricket team in India in November and December 2019 to play one Test, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. It was the first Test match that Afghanistan played against the West Indies. The two teams had played each other ten times before, with the majority of matches in the Caribbean, with this being Afghanistan's fourth Test match. All the matches were played at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

The Ireland men's cricket team toured Bangladesh in March and April 2023 to play one Test, three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.

The Afghanistan cricket team toured Bangladesh in June and July 2023 to play one Test, three One Day International (ODI) and two Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed this FTP tour in their press release.

The Sri Lanka cricket team are touring Bangladesh in March and April 2024 to play two Test, three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The Test series will form part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship. The fixtures for the tour were confirmed in February 2024.

The Afghanistan cricket team toured Sri Lanka in February 2024. The tour consisted of one Test, three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. In November 2023, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced its international calendar for 2024 and confirmed the bilateral series. In January 2024, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed the fixtures for the tour.
