Irvington is an unincorporated community located along U.S. Route 90, east of St. Elmo and north of Bayou La Batre in southwestern Mobile County, Alabama, United States. It has a post office utilizing the 36544 ZIP code and is home to the Mobile International Speedway and Silver King Golf Course. [1]

History

Early in the 20th century, Irvington was a thriving farm community and the center of a lucrative Tung oil (Vernicia fordii) business. [2] [3] [4]

Semmes, Alabama City in Alabama, United States

Semmes is a city in western Mobile County, Alabama, in the Mobile metropolitan statistical area. Formerly an unincorporated community, voters in Semmes approved incorporation of a part of the community as the city of Semmes on August 17, 2010. After a statutory enumeration, or census, the town was officially declared incorporated on May 2, 2011, by Mobile County Probate Judge Don Davis. The statutory census indicated that the town has a population of 2,897 people. It covers 2,100 acres (850 ha). Semmes first mayor was Judy Hale. Current Mayor for the City of Semmes is Brandon Van Hook, a local business owner. Mayor Van Hook was elected by the people in August 2020 and replace the incumbent Mayor David Baker who only served one term.

Grand Bay Historic District United States historic place

Grand Bay Historic District is a historic district in Grand Bay, Alabama. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, the district comprises twelve acres and the three remaining original buildings from Grand Bay's central business district. The buildings include the former Freeland General Store, Grand Bay State Bank, and a small commercial building. The site was once the central business hub of the town and included an L&N passenger station, railway freight station, numerous packing houses, and additional general mercantile businesses.

Fernland is an unincorporated community in Mobile County, Alabama, United States. Fernland lies along U.S. Route 90 midway between the towns of Grand Bay to the west and St. Elmo to the east.
