Ishan Kishan (born 18 July 1998) is an Indian international cricketer who plays for the Indian national cricket team as a wicket-keeper batsman. He made his international debut in March 2021 against England. He plays forJharkhand in domestic cricket. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) he plays for Mumbai Indians.

In December 2022 he scored 210 runs in 131 balls in a One Day International (ODI) match against Bangladesh, becoming the youngest cricketer to score an ODI double century and the first to convert a maiden ODI century to a double century. [2]

He was the captain of India's squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. [3] [4] He was a part of the Indian squad which won the 2023 Asia Cup.

Early life

Ishan Kishan was born on 18 July 1998 in Patna, Bihar. [5] His father, Pranav Kumar Pandey is a builder by profession in Patna. [6] Due to registration issues between Bihar Cricket Association and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Ishan started playing for neighbouring state Jharkhand. [7] [8]

Domestic career

On 6 November 2016, Kishan scored 273 runs against Delhi in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy, setting a new record for a player for Jharkhand in the competition. [9] [10] He was the leading run-scorer for Jharkhand in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, with 484 runs in six matches [11] and in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, with 405 runs in nine matches. [12]

In October 2018, he was named in the India C squad for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy, [13] scoring a century in the tournament's final. [14] In February 2019, in the 2018–19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored an unbeaten century against Jammu and Kashmir. [15] In the next match, against Manipur, he scored 113 not out to record back-to-back centuries in the tournament. [16]

In August 2019, he was named in India Red's squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy [17] [18] and in October in the India A squad for the same competition. [19] In February 2021, on the opening day of the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Kishan scored 173 runs against Madhya Pradesh, part of a record score of 422. [20] [21]

Indian Premier League

In 2016, Kishan was bought by Gujarat Lions in the 2016 IPL auction. [22] In 2018, he was bought by the Mumbai Indians in the 2018 auction. [23] He was the highest run-scorer for Mumbai in the 2020 season, with 516 runs from 14 matches [24] and won the award for hitting the most sixes during the season. [25]

Ahead of the 2022 IPL, Kishan was bought again by Mumbai for 15.25 crore (equivalent to 16 croreorUS$2.0 million in 2023), making him the second-most expensive Indian player at the auction after Yuvraj Singh. [26]

International career

In February 2021, Ishan was named in India's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for their home series against England. [27] It was his maiden international call-up [28] and he went on to make his debut on 14 March 2021, scoring 56 from 32 balls. [4] He won the player of the match award. [29]

In June 2021, he was named in India's One Day International (ODI) and T20I squads for their tour of Sri Lanka. [30] He made his ODI debut on the tour in July, scoring 59 from 42 balls. [31] In September he was named in India's squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. [32]

In October 2022, Kishan scored his then-ODI career-highest score of 93 runs in the second of three ODIs against the touring South Africans [33] before going on to become the youngest―aged 24 years and 145 days―and the fastest player to score a double century in an ODI in December during India's tour of Bangladesh. He scored 210 runs from 131 balls, [34] reaching the 200-run mark in 126 deliveries to beat Chris Gayle's record of 138 balls. [34] He also became the first player to convert a maiden ODI century into a double century, [2] and the fourth Indian player to score a double century in an ODI. [35]

In September 2023, Kishan was selected in India's squad for 50-over World Cup. [36] He was picked as the replacement to the regular opener Shubman Gill in the first match against Australia, but could not score a run. [37] [38] However, in the second game against Afghanistan, he scored 47 runs off 47 balls. [39]

Widely regarded as one of the most prolific wicket-keeper-batsmen and captains, he represented the Indian cricket team and was the captain of the side in limited-overs formats from 2007 to 2017 and in test cricket from 2008 to 2014. Dhoni has captained the most international matches and is the most successful Indian captain. He has led India to victory in the 2011 Cricket World Cup, the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, the only captain to win three different limited overs tournaments. He also led the teams that won the Asia Cup in 2010, 2016 and was a member of the title winning squad in 2018.

Shahbaz Nadeem is a former Indian international cricketer who is a slow left-arm orthodox bowler. He made his first-class cricket debut in December 2004. He has played for Bihar Under-14 side and Indian U-19s and currently plays for Jharkhand. On 5 March 2024, he was announced his retirement from international cricket in India.

Shikhar Dhawan is an Indian cricketer. A left-handed opening batsman, he captains Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League and plays for Delhi in first-class cricket. At the 2013 Champions Trophy and 2017 Champions Trophy, Dhawan was the leading run-scorer and was awarded the 'Golden Bat' in both the tournaments. He was the leading run scorer for India at the 2015 Cricket World Cup. He also became the first player in the history of IPL to score two back-to-back centuries. He was awarded the 'Player of the Tournament' for his exploits in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, which he won with his national side. In the 2018 Asia Cup which Dhawan won with his national side, he was named Player Of The Tournament as he was the top scorer of the tournament with the bat.

Avesh Khan is an Indian international cricketer. In December 2015 he was named in India's squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He made his international debut for the Indian cricket team in February 2022. He plays for Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

Ishan Porel is an Indian cricketer. He made his List A debut for Bengal in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy on 25 February 2017. He made his first-class debut for Bengal in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy on 9 November 2017. He played for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League.

Anukul Sudhakar Roy is an Indian cricketer who plays for Jharkhand and Kolkata Knight Riders. In December 2017, he was named in India's squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He was the joint highest wicket taker in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
